Senior Associate, Strategic Planning and Implementation

The Senior Associate is an integral member of the Strategic Planning and Implementation team and will support organizational strategy development, resource allocation, strategy execution, and operational effectiveness for the UN Foundation. The Senior Associate is responsible for both (1) providing internal consulting services across UNF; and (2) supporting Pan-Foundation projects. S/he will be responsible for providing internal project management for Pan-Foundation initiatives, coordinating with team leaders and ensuring that timelines, milestones and policies are met by Foundation staff. Additionally, the Senior Associate will help drive strategic and tactical analysis spanning financial, operational and performance management issues across UNF campaigns, alliances and initiatives. S/he will support strategic initiatives, operational processes improvement, and new business evaluation and organization wide strategy.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Senior Associate reports to the Director, Strategic Planning and Implementation and will work closely with various campaign/initiative/alliance teams as well as the Integrated Development, Public Affairs, Finance, and BSBR teams as needed at the UN Foundation.

  • Project Management
    • The Senior Associate will provide project management support on high priority, pan-UNF partnerships, initiatives and projects. This includes but is not limited to, serving as the internal coordinator for cross-functional teams, liaising between internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective flow of communication, tracking UNF’s commitments to partners and donors, financial and program management, and supporting teams to ensure high quality, timely work products are submitted for donor funded activities.
  • Strategic Planning and Resource Allocation
    • The Senior Associate will support strategic planning activities through data analysis, internal consulting projects and other duties as assigned to align organizational priorities and resources, ensuring UNF’s investments and portfolio of activities are optimized.
  • Organizational decision-making
    • The Senior Associate will support the organizational decision-making process through conducting and/or supporting quantitative and qualitative analysis and research to provide leadership with the necessary information to make timely and well-informed decisions.
  • Operational Effectiveness
    • The Senior Associate will conduct mapping exercises, stakeholder meetings and internal analysis to develop informed recommendations to senior leadership to increase efficiency in UNF’s business operations and processes.   
  • Analysis and Learning
    • The Senior Associate will support the Strategic Planning & Implementation team and serve as an internal consultant to the organization, partnering with teams to address the opportunities and challenges that emerge on an ongoing basis. Responsibilities will vary but may include analyzing internal or external data, gathering competitive market intelligence, ROI and cost/benefit analysis, financial analysis and forecasting and executing ad hoc projects as assigned.
  • New Initiative Development
    • The Senior Associate will support the vetting and development of new initiatives, campaigns and activities to UNF. At times, s/he will serve as interim secretariat staff and provide financial, procurement and compliance and program and grants management support to nascent and incubating initiatives as needed. This includes managing the workload of lower-level staff, as appropriate.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strategic project management experience and knowledge of modern grant administration and project management best practices, methods, resources and donor rules and regulations
  • Exceptional communications, research, and professional writing skills, especially for a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage via influence
  • Demonstrated capacity to build rapport and develop trust with program leadership and senior executives
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to execute projects on time and on budget
  • Analytical aptitude with strong financial acumen; ability to identify strategic topics and their implications and develop insights from quantitative and qualitative data
  • Demonstrated capacity to build rapport and develop trust with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders across various staff levels and functional expertise
  • A self-starter with the ability to balance multiple objectives and prioritize projects and tasks
  • Well-balanced blend of analytical skills, strategic thinking, planning, project management and collaboration
  • Ability to quickly iterate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress
