Title:                    Bird Tour Coordinator

Supervisor:      Vice President of Development

Job Type:            Part-Time Position: approx. 20 hrs/week, flexible; 80 hrs/month

Location:            Remote (with travel as needed. All travel will be reimbursed.)

Salary:                 $30,000 per year, $28/hr

Position Summary:

American Bird Conservancy (ABC) is seeking a passionate and experienced part-time Bird Tour Coordinator to organize and oversee domestic and international birding field trips for ABC’s major supporters. ABC is a fast-growing, results-focused wildlife conservation non-profit seeking an employee with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make a difference for birds throughout the Americas. This part-time position is crucial for strengthening ABC’s relationships with donors by planning and executing exceptional birding experiences that highlight ABC’s conservation efforts. The Bird Tour Coordinator will plan and organize birding trips, some of which ABC has operated for years, and others which would be new to the organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Primary Duties:

  • Plan and coordinate domestic and international birding field trips for ABC’s major supporters, approximately three 3-4 day trips/year and up to two week-long international trips/year.
  • Arrange for ABC staff and/or experienced birding tour guides to lead trips, and lead select birding trips.
  • Manage logistics related to travel, accommodations, permits, and schedules for ABC-led birding excursions.
  • Promote ABC’s mission by communicating with tour participants and industry professionals about ABC’s conservation work.
  • Ensure high-quality birding experiences that align with ABC’s values and conservation priorities.
  • Coordinate closely with Development, Communications & Marketing, and Program staff as well as ABC partners to ensure the success of trips and events.
  • Help develop ABC field trip policies and practices, such as trip descriptions, travel/medical insurance info/waiver, participant responsibilities, etc.
  • Provide input into birding trip pricing structure and strategy.
Skills/Experience: 

Position Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a birding tour leader, with strong bird identification skills and conservation knowledge.
  • Experience organizing and leading birding trips, including international trips, and coordinating all logistics from lodging to meals to transportation. Familiarity with birding locations at www.conservationbirding.org is considered a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including strong customer service skills and the ability to engage and educate ABC’s major supporters about conservation efforts.
  • Familiarity with ABC’s mission and conservation work is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and coordinate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Possess and maintain a valid current passport.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or other relevant organizational tools.
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese fluency a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US or Permanent Resident
  • Background screening required
  • Must be at least 18 years’ old
