Join the Y executive leadership team in the beginning phases of a capital campaign to raise $16 million, this Y will serve as the anchor in our efforts for a growing Baltimore City region, already with one other family center and plans to begin construction on a new center in late 2018. We are looking for a results-oriented, Philanthropy driven, experienced and tenured cause driven Y leader to join a talented management team that is focused on rebuilding Baltimore City, one community at a time.
Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Operations, the District Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Weinberg and Druid Hill Y Family Centers. This position provides Cause-Driven leadership in membership and program development, staff supervision, volunteer management, fiscal management, financial development, facility & equipment stewardship, community relations and personal-professional development. Responsible for leading and growing a Family Center operation that includes a $4.2 million budget and 4,700+ household membership units (combined).
- Development and supervision of the Weinberg and Druid Hill center operations and expand programs/services to the community.
- Provide direct supervision of Executive Director at Druid Hill center.
- Implements Association membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
- Develops long range plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall Y objectives. Monitors the achievements of these objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure the achievements of the objectives are of the highest quality programs and services.
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Volunteerism and Community Engagement in leading the Y’s Baltimore City Community Leadership Board and related committees.
- Provides leadership and is accountable for achieving annual support (Annual Giving) campaign and special events.
- Works effectively with the Y’s Youth Development leadership and staff to ensure teamwork and effectiveness of the Y’s significant Youth Development footprint (Head Start, Before & After School Enrichment, Community Schools, Sumer Enrichment & Camp, etc.) in Baltimore City.
- Represents and promotes the Y in the local community by developing positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, and lead employees and volunteers in coordination with Association Human Resource Department. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Responsible for supervision of up to 10 exempt staff and 150+ non-exempt employees.
- Ensure safety, cleanliness and function of all related facilities and equipment.
- Ensure all program operations are consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, accounting and other administrative systems.
- Develops, manages, and monitors center operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Initiates and manages adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
- Incorporate character development within the activities of the Y.
- Assist in all areas, project teams, and duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills:
- Ability to lead assigned operations including staff development and supervision, development and active management of budgets, membership and program development, financial development, marketing and public relations, board and volunteer development.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- Ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and issues.
- Effective team-building and team-leadership skills.
Experience:
- Significant experience leading (5+ years preferred) membership and program operations in urban and diverse communities.
- Proven business operations background with a demonstrated track record for producing growth and strong financial results.
- Five or more years of successful operational management experience, preferably in a Y or health & wellness business, or related service-intensive organization.
- Supervision of full and part time employees and accountability of annual budget, exceeding $2.5 million.
- Y Organizational Leader or Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
