The New York YMCA Camp is seeking an Outdoor Education Program Coordinator who, under the supervision of the Greenkill Director, will plan and prepare specialty activities and programs that ensure a safe, high quality experience for groups visiting Greenkill.
- Assist Greenkill Director in planning and preparing school trips. Might include in-school teacher meetings and presentations, timely phone and written communications.
- Ensure all information is gathered and appropriately distributed prior to groups’ arrival.
- Act as a liaison between Outdoor Education staff and attending schools to make sure all program needs are being met.
- Provide staff with schedules of classes to be taught and daily duties.
- Ensure staff are prepared for their assignments and informed of pertinent information.
- Work with Greenkill Director in the supervision of Outdoor Education staff.
- Assist in marketing of the program on a year-round basis.
- Provide outdoor environmental education staff with support to ensure presentation of high-quality programs for schools and conference groups, as required.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, issues, and initiatives in outdoor education and / or ropes facilitation.
- Coordinate all that is necessary to provide group with quality experience which meets their needs including Manager on Duty responsibilities.
- Maintain a safe environment and program as established in the facility risk management plan within camp policies.
- Update and create educational, engaging lesson plans that meet New York State Education Standards.
- Fulfill the teaching responsibilities of naturalist instructors during peak weeks and weekends as needed.
- Assist in projects which result in furthering development and promotions of all NY YMCA Camp programs. May include assisting in promotion of programs through slide shows, grant writing, program training, etc.
- Assume a leadership role in sleepaway or day camp program as needed.
- Minimum three years of experience in outdoor environmental education, ropes, or similar field; experience supervising and training required.
- First Aid / CPR Certifications. Wilderness First Responder Certification, and YMCA certifications strongly desired.
- Excellent hospitality skills.
- General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
