The Outreach and Education Seasonal assists in implementing tactics related to outreach and education in the Oak Openings region in accordance with current grant deliverables.
The Outreach and Education Seasonal implements outreach and educational strategies that engage local communities in conservation and communicates the objectives of the Green Ribbon Initiative and The Nature Conservancy. The seasonal position will assist the Green Ribbon Initiative Partnership Specialist in achieving deliverables of multiple grants and help reinforce the efforts of the Green Ribbon Initiative and the Oak Openings Project Team. Many of the tasks will be geared toward increasing the participation of landowners in the Oak Openings Landowner Registry program, enrolling participants in the Adopt-A-Natural Areas program, improving public understanding of the benefits of nature in their community, empowering citizens to take action locally and connecting people to their globally rare surroundings. This is a six month, hourly position working between 25 and 40 hours/week based on project needs and the availability of the chosen applicant.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Assist in writing/producing content for external communications such as news stories for the GRI e-newsletter, social media webpages, press releases, outreach letters, and/or brochures. Work with staff to update and/or generate text for website
- Fact check, proofread, format, and edit as necessary
- May create videos and other multimedia communications to supplement news stories
- Assist in general office duties and logistical support for the Oak Openings Project Team such as assisting in grant required documents and database entry
- May assist with event planning such as training workshops, landowner workshops, and other events.
- Serve as a member of the Green Ribbon Initiative Education and Outreach Subcommittee.
- Supervises no staff, but may help assist staff, volunteers, temporary staff, landowners and partners of the Green Ribbon Initiative.
- Makes day to day decisions as delegated by supervisor.

- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances
- May assist with monitoring, restoration work and/or other grant required tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to demonstrate excellence in verbal and written communication
- Must be comfortable talking to a diverse group of people such as landowners, partners and other stakeholders.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office application in a PC format
- Excellent attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certification as required (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide application, and driver’s license).
- Must be able to handle sensitive information responsibly.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Familiarity with Access Database
- Familiarity with WordPress
- Familiarity with various tools (motorized and non-motorized) used in land management field.
- Familiarity with regional invasive plants.
- Familiarity with online social media (trends, targets, appropriate uses).
- Experience writing and/or editing publications and related materials.
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicle or ability to learn.
