This position will assist staff, including attorneys and paralegals, in review of conservation easements to advance TNC priorities and appropriately manage risk. Anticipated duration of project 400-480 hours. Our preference is for the intern/extern to be onsite over a concentrated period during the summer of 2018, but we will consider a longer-term arrangement without the requirement to work onsite.
Under supervision of TNC staff, the legal intern assists in reviewing conservation easements to develop a catalog of interpretations and compile a history of rights exercised on selected easements. S/he is able to effectively articulate basic legal concepts.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Reviews official corporate legal files, in electronic and paper form.
- Drafts legal memorandums and other documents for attorney and/or Paralegal II review.
- Interviews staff.
Educational Background:
BA/BS degree.
Skills/Experience:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in a college of law.
- Experience conducting research on the Internet and in other legal resources.
- Experience with MS Office, Word, and Excel.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Conservation Easements and Wyoming property law.
- Classes in Property and contracts law.
- Classes in legal writing.
