Central Bucks Family YMCA is seeking a dedicated, cause-driven leader to serve as the Youth Development Specialist. This position has the ability to impact children across Central Bucks County. This position reports to the Director of Youth Development and is a member of the Youth Development team.

The Youth Development Specialist will instill quality, organization, and safety to Youth Development programming. Responsibilities include oversight of Summer Camp, community outreach, and assisting in all Youth Development programs. This position is also responsible for strategically improving member engagement processes to improve member retention.

Throughout the school year, this position works Tuesday-Saturday and works some evenings. Throughout the summer months, this position works Monday-Friday during the day.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversight of summer camp which includes interviewing, hiring and training of summer camp staff, and management of camp staff by defining excellent performance and setting clear expectations for all programs.
  • Planning of summer camp events, schedules, and curriculum and identify and implement best practices for instructing camp activities. Identify and use data to inform service design and benchmark service levels to serve children.
  • Effective communication with summer camp families.
  • Provide strategic ideas to improve youth development programming.
  • Foster a climate of high member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Ensure sustainability of programs while maintaining proper expenses.
  • Provide clear expectations of program content, services offered and policies and procedures to ensure a high-quality programming.
  • Maintain key outside/community relationships and organize community outreach events at the branch and with other organizations in the local communities.
  • Connect with and build relationships with community partners, such as school districts and other youth organizations to continue service in the community. Identify and implement new after-school programs for local schools in Central Bucks and Centennial School Districts.
  • Work with the marketing team to ensure occupancy is maximized and brand is captured.
  • Ensure that facilities are appropriate for high-quality service delivery.
  • Instruct youth classes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • One to Two years’ experience as a program instructor in a recognized youth development program preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience with administrative experience in programming.
  • Attend Full Listen First Training within first 6 months of employment.
  • Attend New Employee Orientation within 60 days of employment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.  This work requires the following physical activities; climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.  The work is performed primarily indoors.
