The Youth Mentoring Coordinator position is responsible for the oversight and ongoing development and implementation of the YMCA’s National Reach and Rise Mentoring Program at the Aberdeen Family YMCA. This position will be responsible for outreach of mentee placement in the program and  recruiting, screening, training, supporting, and monitoring of the volunteer mentors, as well as being responsible for case management, and if needed, crisis intervention. This is a grant funded position. The essential functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals and Mission of the Aberdeen Family YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Outreach of mentee placement in Reach and Rise program as dictated by the national program. 
  • Mentor recruiting including screening, training, supporting and monitoring or each volunteer.
  • Responsible for case management with each mentor.
  • Plan and facilitate as necessary mentee/mentor activities.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Complies with the legal standards for mandated reporting.
  • Provide accurate, timely completion and submission of all mentor/mentee related records and documents.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments and implements the mentee growth plans, utilizing various intervention methods and techniques.
  • Works with all YMCA partners to ensure positive and consistent relationships.
  • Actively reach out and connect with schools, local businesses, universities, service organizations and other organizations to educate regarding our mentoring program and seek referrals for both mentees and mentors.
  • Routinely contact local school principals and counselors in seeking mentee referrals and mentoring needs within the community. 
  • Attends regular meetings with volunteers, families, and with staff from schools and/or community based organizations as needed.
  • Provides input as to how the Reach and Rise Program Director can better reflect the cultural diversity of the children and families in Aberdeen and Brown County.
  • Attends all required training as required by the YMCA of the USA and approved by supervisor and/or CEO.
  • Other duties as specified by the Reach and Rise National Director.
  • Develop, plan and facilitate fundraising events for the program.
  • Develop an approved plan for professional development.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, YMCA members and the general public is essential.
  • A willingness to commit to the mission of the YMCA.
  • Actively participates in YMCA events and adheres to the YMCA Core Values.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Positively communicate information on all YMCA programs.
  • Promote and incorporate the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. 
  • Responds to all member and community inquires and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Attend staff meetings and approved trainings.
  • Work Manager on duty (MOD) shifts as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field required.
Master’s degree in social work or counseling.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two years of experience working with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic, education, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to actively listen.
  • CPR-PR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer) Certification
  • First Aid Certification
