Climate Campaign and Outreach Intern

Audubon’s Climate Initiative team has a paid internship opportunity in the Washington, DC for an individual interested in issue campaign and climate change. The intern will work directly with Audubon’s Climate Program Manager and National Campaign Director on various research, outreach, and creative projects to advance our 5-year goals and pass climate related policies across the U.S. This internship is designed to provide the intern with the opportunity to interact with and learn from experts in the field of conservation and to contribute to Audubon’s climate work and campaign strategy.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The intern will contribute to the goals of the Climate Initiative in a variety of ways, with many opportunities to dive deeper into a project based on interest and needs. This intern will work on projects supporting the five state-level climate related policy campaigns. They will have the opportunity to work with staff to create outreach materials and research additional engagement opportunities. The internship have a significant impact on the progress of our campaigns in these key states and will help lay the groundwork for these campaigns to win in the next 12-18 months. 

At the end of the internship, the intern will:

  • Have gained valuable experiences from interacting with professional communicators, conservation leaders, and campaigners at Audubon.
  • Have developed a new set of communication and community organization skills through interacting with staff and volunteers from across the network.
  • Have made a significant impact on the success of our policy campaigns.

This full-time paid internship will run from December to the summer of 2018, with the potential for an extension. We would consider a part-time internship (under 28 hours a week); applicants must specify their availability when applying.

Educational Background: 
A bachelor in political science, climate change, and/or social change.
Skills/Experience:

  • High-energy, dedicated, and excited about working in a dynamic, fast-paced nonprofit organization.
  • Appetite for learning and growth.

Primary Qualifications:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; well organized.
  • Adaptable to changing plans in a dynamic work environment
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
  • Understanding of ArcGIS or other mapping software a bonus.
  • Experience with InDesign or other creative software a bonus.
  • Independent and able to work with little oversight.
