Under the direction of the CEO, the Aquatics and Youth Sports Director will be responsible for the innovation, growth and developement of the Aquatics and Youth Sports departments.  The successful candidate will have excellent relationship building skills, strong organizational and time management skills and be able to lead by example through embracing of the mission and values of the YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs, supervises and leads the aquatics and youth sports departments.  Adhere to state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, review and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and expand new and existing program opportunities.
  • Monitor daily pool operations.
  • Conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Oversee the operations of the swim team - provide support and establish effective communication with the swim team coach and key volunteers.
  • Establish staff development and training plans as well as staff satisfaction initiatives.
  • Develop and implement all scheduling related to each department.
  • Maintain accurate records for aquatics and sports programs, facilities, staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and effectively monitor program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assume leadership role in organization's Annual Campaign.
  • Provide leadership assistance and support for organizational special event programming.
  • Responsible for one week night as manager on duty for facility.
  • Rotating facilty weekend coverage as manager on duty with other directors.
  • Ensure excellent member service is achieved organization wide.
  • Work effectively as a member of the YMCA leadership team.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or equivelant experience in related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Current YMCA or Red Cross lifeguarding certificate
  • Current Life Guard Instructor certification, Water Safety Instruction, Y Swim Lesson Instructor certification preferred.
  • Current CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, First Aid.
  • Minimum three years of aquatics supervisory and programming experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum two years of youth sports supervisory and programming experiece strongly preferred.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers and community members.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time managment skills.

Required Certifications

  • Bloodborne Pathogens (within 30 days)
  • CPR, First Aid (within 60 days)
  • Child Abuse Prevention training (within 60 days)
  • Current YMCA or Red Cross lifeguarding certificate
