Under the direct supervision of the Director of Healthy Living, the Aquatics Director will develop, implement, and administer diverse and dynamic aquatics programs. This individual is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising the aquatics facility, the aquatics program and the aquatic staff. This individual will own the responsibility for the vision, initiative, communication, implementation, staffing, program quality and progression of youth and adult swim programs as well the swim team.
The individual must be member service-oriented and dedicated to providing excellent coordination of programs for all in our community. The Director must have very strong relationship-building skills and proven administrative and leadership skills. This includes, but is not limited to; planning, coordination, development, and the delivery of assigned services/programs. The individual will be responsible for leading staff development and provide training opportunities for staff mentoring and coaching.
Finally, the Director will be accountable for achieving yearly budget for swim lessons and swim team and supports strategic goals. This position may require early morning, evening, and weekend hours and to be on call as required.
- Build, monitor and maintain budgets for all assigned departments
- Meet program financial goals, participation targets and quality and safety standards
- Compile and report program statistics that will accurately reflect the condition of the program
- Ensure programs are aligned with cause in accordance with strategic and operating plans
- Develop new program and meets the needs of participants and reaches under-served segments
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, coaching and terminating personnel in each department
- Schedule staff to adequately supervise programs and ensure a safe environment
- Review and evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate and engage staff
- Ensure staff certifications and records are current and complete
- Process bi-monthly payroll
- Build relationships with and among members, create a supportive community environment, assist in recruiting and engaging new members and connect members to the YMCA’s cause
- Communicate information with participants, parents or other persons associated with the programs
- Communicate with supervisor to report on issues, concerns and successes of the programs
- Bid and purchase necessary program equipment and supplies
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships within the community
- Collect and track team and participant fees owed to the YMCA, when necessary
- Work with Swim Team Advisory Committee to assist in executing committee objectives
- Coordinate the set up and take down of equipment associated with programs
- Coordinate pool schedule and monitors activities accordingly
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations
- Create and ensure safe and welcoming environment
- Ability to enforce policies, problem solve and handle emergency situations
- Ability to assist and communicate with all populations of people regardless of race, age, and special needs

- Support YMCA special events, signature events, and campaigns

- Other duties assigned by the Director of Healthy Living and/or CEO/Executive Director
- Must be 18 years or older
- Three years related experience in program development and supervision
- Competitive swimming experience preferred
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations
Required Certifications
- Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, AED (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
- Accredited Lifeguard Certificate
Salary: $28,000.00 - $34,000.00
