The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger for all of the ASYMCA branch offices; process AR/AP; and, prepare journal entries. The successful candidate will also assist the ASYMCA Controller and perform other accounting duties as assigned.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Accounting/bookkeeping services for ASYMCA HQ and branch offices: Post cash receipts to the accounting software general ledger; process accounts payable (full cycle); post petty cash, inter-company transactions to both branch accounts and HQ accounts; analyze general ledger accounts for errors and omissions; reconcile general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers. Produce the branch monthly income statement, balance sheet and process the bank reconciliations.
- Cash receipts: Enter daily Headquarter receipts in accounting software, review general ledger account for errors and omissions.
- Accounts Payables: Obtain required approvals, input and post invoices to accounting software, track payment dates, and maintain payment schedule for repetitive vendors. Print checks. Retrieve and compile payable information as required, interface with vendors and colleagues to resolve billing deputes.
- Accounts Receivables: Prepare, make copies and maintain files for invoices to outside parties and branches. Record payments received in subsidiary journals. Prepare general ledger entries and post to accounting software. Review payment history for late, missing and/or erroneously posted payments.
- Become proficient in the Intacct accounting software; assist branches with software problems/questions, learn the accounting policies and procedures and assist HQ and branch staff with inquiries.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationship with ASYMCA staff.
- Support ASYMCA Controller with finance administrative duties and preparations for Board meetings and annual audit.
Educational Background:
Accounting degree required
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience
- Nonprofit experience highly preferred
- Knowledge of Intacct and/or QuickBooks software a plus
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new procedures and software
- Organized and reliable
- Enjoys new challenges
- Good interpersonal skills
- Be able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- This position is fast-paced and the work is high-volume. Great organizational skills are a must.
