The U.S. Fossil Fuel Resistance Organizer will support the network of fossil fuel project fights across the US. Support on key campaigns, and help leverage the resources of 350 to support stopping new fossil fuel projects. Play a key role in major mobilizations of the Keep it in the Ground team.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Support local groups inside and outside of the 350 local group network who are fighting to stop fossil fuel projects across the country.
- Represent 350.org in key regional coalitions working to stop specific fossil fuel projects.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders and leaders across the network of groups fighting fossil fuel projects.
- Assist local campaigns with strategic planning, campaign development and development of strategic coalitions.
- Stay abreast of the myriad of fossil fuel fights across the country, who is leading them, and the political developments as they unfold.
- Leverage the resources of 350.org and the Big Organizing team to support key moments and mobilizations of groups working to stop fossil fuel projects.
- Write and send local email blasts and social media content to elevate fossil fuel project fights across the U.S.
- Develop and help coordinate peer-to-peer fossil fuel resistance network activities and resources.
- Coach local groups on organizing skills, movement building, campaigns and mobilization; help to develop local group leadership, infrastructure and capacity
- Foster and develop a deeper understanding and effort around intersectional, climate justice and allyship organizing in local groups.
- Understand 350.org’s history, campaigns and theory of social change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy.
- From time to time, represent 350.org in the media, with high-profile partners and in other public venues and contribute work towards 350.org’s overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.
Skills/Experience:
- 2+ years of recruiting, organizing, training, and coaching volunteers and volunteer leaders
- Campaign strategy, planning, and volunteer management experience.
- Experience working well with the diverse people in our base, including race, age, gender, sexual orientation etc.
- Experience running grassroots campaigns to influence major decision makers.
- Experience developing grassroots organizational structure and capacity is a plus.
- Familiarity and relationships with fossil fuel resistance fights preferred.
- Familiarity and skills in digital organizing preferred
- Knowledgeable and passionate about climate action
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to adapt to and juggle evolving and competing priorities, and meet deadlines
- Ability to travel within the U.S. 1-2 times per month on average
- Comfortable working independently as part of a remote team
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $47,500 - $60,000 depending on location and qualifications
