About the Position:
412 JUSTICE is seeking a full-time Environmental Organizer to create new leads, follow up with neighborhood leads generated by our team, build chapters, develop leaders who will identify local issues, and direct successful issue-based campaigns throughout the Allegheny and surrounding areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Organizers perform a wide range of duties focused on empowering people most affected by our economic system to stand up for themselves and join with their family, friends and neighbors to use their strength to win improvements on the job and in society. In a typical campaign, an organizer:

Identifies, recruits, and trains leaders to help lead the campaign

Builds membership and tests community support

Creates positive leadership relationships with member leaders and activists

Plans and executes large member engagement (actions, public hearings,lobby day’s, monthly meetings,workshops, rally, etc.)

Mobilizes members (house calls, 1 on 1’s, phonebanking, & door knocking)

Records conversations, assessments, and follow-ups with member leaders

Maintains and updates various campaign lists and data systems

Work fluidly in a team where you are sometimes a leader and sometimes a follower

Can read and articulate policy and legislation to educate community members and crete relevant materials ie: (Talking points, 1 pagers)
Qualifications:

All applicants must have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and challenge people to take risks in order to make change.

A demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice issues and understanding of challenges facing communities of color, immigrant communities, and low and moderate income families is also required.

Successful applicants must have excellent communications skills, show leadership in large and small groups, willing and able to work in a team where roles are fluid,

Possess adequate background knowledge of, and willingness to learn about, the Environmental impact, strategies and policies that come before us,

Be willing to work long and irregular hours based on event workload (40 hours a week regularly and able to flex up to 60 hours per week).

Having a results focused, organized and self-motivated ability to work is necessary.

Some experience working on environmental issues and knowledge of policy is preferred.

The position may (will) begin with a two-month apprenticeship program.

Must own and be able to operate a car is required. A willingness to travel and the ability to competently navigate the city with activists are required. Occasional in state travel is required, opportunities to travel across the country for training or with members can be reasonably expected. 412 JUSTICE provides mileage reimbursement at the Federal rate, per diem and lodging when working away from home.
Compensation:
412 JUSTICE offers a competitive salary ($45,000-$55,000) and benefits which includes a fully paid health care package. Professional development opportunities as they become available along with a generous paid time off allowance and holidays.
