General Summary

The Longest Day is the Alzheimer's Association second signature constituent fundraising event, comprised of year-round fundraising activities led by individual and team/group volunteer fundraisers as well as third party fundraising activities. Responsible for the oversight and achievement of annual The Longest Day revenue goals by identifying, leading and ensuring successful execution of individual, team and third party fundraising activities. Recruit, train and provide staff support to The Longest Day Volunteer Committee to ensure fundraising goals are met. This role will also support Blondes vs. Brunettes, the charity running program and other third party fundraisers. In addition, this position will support operational and stewardship activities for the Walk to End Alzheimer's and manage a fundraising portfolio of $300,000-$450,000. This individual reports to the Senior Director of Constituent Events and works closely with other Chapter staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for achieving revenue targets for the Longest Day with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget.
  • Ensure the Longest Day Volunteer Leadership committee is recruited, trained and developed based on National Guidelines and utilizing best practices.
  • Responsible for ensuring high level leadership volunteers are in place and engaged and providing comprehensive support.
  • Develop and follow a comprehensive development plan for the Longest Day that includes budget management, adherence to timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development and marketing/PR.
  • Ensure smooth integration of the National Association and Chapter best practices, standards and guidelines.
  • Manage the Longest Day and Walk to End Alzheimer's websites and ensure timely and efficient data entry and donation processing.
  • Support Blondes vs. Brunettes for the National Capital Area Chapter.
  • Support and manage charity running program and other third party fundraisers.
  • Support the Young NationALZ fundraising initiatives and other third party events as assigned.
  • This position will support the Walk to End Alzheimer's in the National Capital Area requiring some experience with recruitment, training and development of Walk volunteer committee members and achieving income and team goals by implementing best practices, organizing wrap around events, recruiting and coaching team captains and executing community outreach activities.
  • Identify and secure corporate teams and potential sponsorships
  • Support operational and stewardship activities for the Constituent Events team
  • Provide high touch customer service and support by responding to inquiries, engaging participants and sponsors via phone, email or in person. Clarify registration procedures and assist participants with registration and fundraising.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or 3 years successful work experience in individual/team fundraising, peer to peer campaign management, corporate engagement or sales.
  • Successful fundraiser with demonstrated peer to peer fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated skills in volunteer talent identification and volunteer leadership development. Ability to recruit, motivate and coach volunteers in a fundraising environment
  • Proven track record of achieving fundraising revenue goals.
  • Demonstrated success in relationship development and stewardship
  • Strong analytical, project management and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, evolving priorities and initiatives
  • Professional customer service skills with visitors, callers, donors and volunteers
  • Understanding of the mechanics related to fundraising events
  •   Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong business acumen with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, diplomacy and initiative
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Google Apps suite
  • Proficiency in fundraising database software (Blackbaud experience preferred)
  • Self-starter with ability to function autonomously and as a member of a team, with a high regard for accountability and outcomes
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends around the region
  • Ability to represent the Association at public events, fundraisers and media events, including public speaking and media presentations as assigned.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of digital, social media & emerging online channels.
