General Summary
Provide management level leadership for the development, oversight, execution and monitoring of a diversified comprehensive communications plan to increase concern and awareness. Manage media relations, marketing and organization promotions. Serve as a communications advisor to Development and Programs & Services departments.
The Alzheimer's Association Rochester & Finger Lakes Region, has been providing programs, services and advocacy since 1981 to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, their families and health care providers. We serve a nine-county area that includes Chemung, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates counties. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Essential Job Functions
- Support and coordinate the organization's efforts to raise public awareness of the Alzheimer's Association throughout the Rochester and Finger Lakes Region and promote: 1) use of Association programs & services by individuals, families and professionals dealing with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias; 2) acceleration of research; 3) general public concern and awareness; and 4) agency events including, but not limited to, The Walk to End Alzheimer's, Annual Gala, and advocacy efforts
- Oversee and develop all external communications such as newsletters, quarterly catalogs, brochures, flyers and paid advertising
- Manage all media buying initiatives and monitor buying within budgetary guidelines
- Build awareness by managing all media relations, including through media story placement and other public relations techniques. Proactively pitch stories to promote programs & services, fundraising initiatives, advocacy efforts and research based on local, regional, national and international events and opportunities
- Track media hits and impressions
- Strategically determine best use of resources, tools and tactics to achieve goals, along with superior research, writing and editorial skills
- Ensure execution of national brand guidelines in all chapter communications and publications
- Coordinate communications and marketing plans with the Development and Programs & Services departments
- Responsible for the organization's social media program and website content, with appropriate input from senior staff and President/CEO
- Represent organization at public events, conferences, workshops and media events
- Manage the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications database
- Provide marketing support to mass market events (i.e. Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day)
- Assure compliance with all organization policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; promote organization-wide programs and initiatives
- Work effectively with groups and individuals from diverse racial ethnic groups
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Public Relations or Marketing; Master's degree preferred
- Four years progressive leadership experience in communications, advertising and/or non-profit organizations
- Experience in strategic planning and budget development a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Proficiency with social media, including Facebook and Twitter
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and electronically to a variety of audiences
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties
- Must have a car and valid driver's license for travel off-site to events and meetings
- Must be able to bend, lift, carry, transport, and set up a variety of print and event materials (weighing up to 30 pounds)
