Summary Statement
Director, Strategy Integration Mgmt. reports directly to the Vice President (VP), IT Business Operations. The Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of the development and implementation of strategy integration services. The Director ensures that the approach drives an increase in the knowledge and ITS staff alignment with organizational information technology and business strategies. The Director leads initiatives to cultivate and drive alignment across ITS in support of AARP business objectives. The Director collaborates with the ITS Senior Leadership and Management Teams and other key stakeholders across the enterprise (i.e. Integrated Communications and Human Resources) to set strategic goals and oversee the design, development and implementation of in scope responsibilities.
The Director provides formal supervision and coaching for the Strategy Integration Management team and sets vision and direction to inspire and drive continuous improvement of Strategy Integration Management standards and procedures.
The Director is expected to demonstrate significant leadership expertise to establish strategic direction as well as significant depth of technical expertise in strategy integration and development and awareness services. The Director is expected to have expertise in organizational change management, cultural integration and strategic communication. Additionally, the Director is expected to demonstrate One AARP cultural attributes and behaviors in all interactions.
Responsibilities
Functional / Technical Responsibilities
- Provide vision for and direct oversight of the ITS Strategy Integration Managementfunction within ITS Business Operations.
- Develop key performance metrics, establish baselines and drive continuous improvement in delivery of respective services.
- Develop, review and approve ITS specific content for our employee and contractor communities via various channels including email, web publishing, social media, etc.
- Design and develop content aligned to ITS business objectives and reputation management.
- Formulation of key reporting narratives leveraged across pertinent leadership and/or board of director meetings.
- Coordination of key ITS employee events.
- Identification, management and overall tracking of a comprehensive ITS awards and recognition program that supplements our corporate efforts and initiatives.
- Lead formulation of an integrated roadmap of ITS events, conferences, awards and recognition activities.
- Identify opportunities for ITS thought leaders to promote ITS capabilities and services.
- Serve as a key adviser to ITS Leadership and Management Teams by ensuring adherence to key departmental themes/messages and creation of a consistent brand for message delivery. This should be accomplished by establishing a multi-medium approach that leverages video, interactive graphics, games and web pages and use of mobile apps were possible.
- Develop a platform to promote emerging technologies that benefit our employees and support AARP’s mission and purpose.
- Work with technology suppliers and partners to identify opportunities and synergies that drive execution of strategic partnerships that benefit our employees and support AARP’s mission and purpose. Where possible this should take advantage of a ‘show & tell’ approach.
- Lead efforts to establish a strategic perspective to capture business value around emerging technology and create the narrative of how these technologies are benefiting our employees and support AARP’s mission and purpose.
- Plan and execute events, workshops, training sessions and other content-delivery strategies that are aligned with AARP’s strategic objectives, and that reflect AARP’s role as a technology thought leader.
- Plan and execute events and content delivery strategies that are aligned with ITS strategic objectives, such as hackathons & tech challenges, vendor days, employee tech days, etc.
- Deliver a flawless experience for ITS event participants, executives, sponsors, vendor partners, and staff by overseeing every detail of event logistics in partnership with applicable corporate business partners (events team, etc.)
- Develop a library of multi-media content (videos, infographics, presentations, presentation standards, etc.) that the department can leverage to deliver key messages.
- Facilitate a coordinated communications plan that continually showcases the value of our investments in technology through the use of multiple mediums and channels.
- Identify major technology skillset needs and/or professional development opportunities that will serve as the basis for close coordination of training/development programs provided by our HR partners.
- Creation of an evergreen process to maintain an upskilled workforce.
- Creation of an evergreen process to maintain a consistent level of highly skilled interns in our department.
- Keep up with current events trends, conferences, speaking opportunities and partner synergies around technology, and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Work with AARP technology leaders to create or participate in a wide variety of events that showcase the commitment of AARP and relevant initiatives.
- Maintain staff awareness of ITS cultural attributes.
People Management
- Provide direct oversight of ITS Strategy Integration Management group, including Senior Advisors, Advisors and Analysts.
- Develop and communicate organizational objectives; inspire and motivate team members to achieve results.
- Build organizational talent by creating a learning environment that ensures employees realize their highest potential.
- Design and implement performance improvement strategies.
Relationship Management
- Work in partnership with ITS Senior Leadership and Management Teams on strategic initiatives related to IT Business Operations group to continuously improve communications and alignment to ITS business strategies and objectives, providing advice and sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Work with the ITS Leadership and Management Teams (inclusive of their direct reports) to identify key messages and themes that can be leveraged across the ITS organization.
- Develop strategic relationships with other team members and business partners and partner across the ITS Senior Leadership and Management Teams to align with AARP internal and external demands.
- Coordinate activities with key stakeholders and partners across the enterprise including Integrated Communication, Brand and Human Resources teams.
- Coordinate with AARP’s Events and Communications Teams to develop programs to elevate the visibility of AARP technology initiatives.
Financial / Budgetary Responsibility
- Responsible for developing and administering the ITS Risk and Program Management Services group and provides input into the IT Business Operations group allocation of funds.
Leadership Responsibility
- Oversee ITS Strategy Integration Management group domain function and manage Senior Advisors, Advisors and Analysts.
- Provide operational oversight for the ITS program management and project coordination services provider. In this capacity, this leader and their team will monitor performance against service levels and monitor compliance with other deliverables.
- Coordinate with ITS Business Operations leadership team to ensure alignment across the domain.
- Serves as mentor for Senior Advisors, Advisors and Analysts ensuring optimization of ITS risk management and provider services.
- Responsible for hiring and developing strong a strong cross functional team of professionals.
- Collaborate with ITS Senior Leadership and Management Teams to align functional and ITS strategic plan.
- Ensure understanding of the relevance of IT initiatives within ITS and across the enterprise.
- Complete authority for making day-to-day decisions within own area of responsibility.
- Responsibility for committing to actions and plans developed by IT Senior Leadership team.
- Dedicated focus on continuous improvement with clear responsibility for maximizing value of ITS to the business.
Requirements
Desired Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communication, Public Relations, Technology-based Communications, Organizational Development or related field.
Required Competencies
- 8+ years related experience.
- Leadership experience managing several direct reports.
- Knowledge and application of principles of change management, vendor/partner management, public relations, and event management.
