The Health and Wellness Director is responsible for building a team to best deliver health and wellness options.
Under the guidance and direction of the Association Director of Healthy Living, the Health and Wellness Director is responsible for building a team to best deliver health and wellness options, to include: personal training growth, innovative programming, group fitness for all levels and ages, on-boarding and retention of staff and members, outreach in the local community, healthy living engagement, and development of programming outside our walls. The Health and Wellness Director will represent the YMCA of Greater Hartford in a positive, professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous service and will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
Develops the annual operation objectives and plans for health & wellness and other assigned program responsibility.
2. Prepares the annual budget for the health & wellness department.
3. Promote membership enrollment through direct service and building supervisor responsibilities and foster leadership development by encouraging members to be involved in committees and other volunteer roles.
4. Interpret YMCA policy, mission and objectives to members, employees, lay leaders and community.
5. Attend weekly staff meetings. Meet as needed with key program coordinators.
6. Actively pursue training, learning opportunities, and certifications as they relate to job responsibilities.
7. Participate in branch and Association-wide assignments and special responsibilities as designated by the Association Director of Healthy Living.
8. Evaluate and deliver consistent, innovative, and high energy group fitness programming and special events.
9. Proactively taking lead in Wellness Center as far as all areas are concerned (i.e. staff development, equipment needs, Health & Wellness programs, appearance of room, response to members, broken equipment and cleanliness).
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

- A bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field.
- Minimum four years related experience.
- Previous supervisory experience required, minimum two years.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Must be able to conduct fitness classes, lift, and push and pull heavy weights to demonstrate equipment and technique, and to set up and break down equipment.
- Required Industry certifications (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, NASM, TFW and ISSA) and/or YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
