Assistant Director of Healthy Living will assist Director of Healthy Living and Sports with the day-to-day operations in the Health and Wellness, Group exercise, Personal Training, and Chronic Disease, which includes the development, expansion, implementation and management of these programs and the training, evaluation and supervision of the staff who deliver them. The assistant may supervise and perform personal training, group exercise and, wellness orientations, health management programs and assessments. Additionally, the position is involved in coordinating the additional staff that will engage with members on the wellness floor, group exercise, through related activities, programs and events.
- Work with staff to develop growth opportunities and to increase capacity within organization. Recruit and retain qualified wellness staff (i.e. personal trainers, fitness instructors).
- Responsible for supporting Director in developing annual budget of anticipated income and expenditures. Support Director in maintaining, controlling and evaluating the income/expenses of budget. Responsible for generating required reports for association and branch.
- Hire, train, evaluate and coach staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and models relationship building skills, including listen first, in all interactions.
- Creates Health & Wellness (Group Exercise) schedule and manages coverage for all shifts and staff scheduling.
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans and develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations to improve health and wellness.
- Ensure Wellness Mission Partners and other collaborative partnerships expectations are met and significant value is received by both employers and employees.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in all programs (i.e. personal training, small group, chronic disease, etc...)
- Development of member progress reports and wellness programs outcomes and measurable.
- Assist in developing and controlling department budgets related to this position.
- Identify and resolve problem areas to ensure member satisfaction related to healthy living activities and events.
- Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Including recruitment of volunteer leadership.
- Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
- Ensures all equipment is in working order. Responsible for reporting non-functioning equipment for repair and ensuring service date follow up within 24 hours.
- Assists with special events planning and delivery, including but not limited to: Healthy Kids Day, and other Health & Wellness events.
- Responsible for assisting Health and Wellness Director with driving Personal training revenue and expansion of Chronic Disease programming in order to exceed branch year end goal.
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in programming (sports & health and wellness)
- Be a certified personal trainer through National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or other reputable certification organization.
- Previous supervisory and management experience in customer service field/sports/wellness field preferred.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications where necessary.
- YMCA Team Leader certificate within three years.
