The Vice President of Regulatory Strategy will work to advocate for clear and practical regulatory reform that holds schools accountable for student growth and achievement, closing achievement gaps, and preparing students for post-secondary success, while also providing educators with the autonomy to respond to the local needs of their community.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to provide sound strategic regulatory guidance, communicate clearly (in verbal and written form), and display exemplary organizational and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have strong familiarity with Missouri’s public education policies and regulations. Additionally, s/he will foster a highly motivational environment and encourage education professionals to work collaboratively to help deliver exceptional results and ensure long-term success.
- Responsible for cultivating strong working relationships with State legislators, the State Board of Education (SBOE), the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and other officials who are making an impact within the public education sector in Missouri.
- Regularly attending SBOE meetings and various conferences that directly impact Missouri’s public education system, acting as a reputable and creditable representative of Quality Schools Coalition.
- Participation in a variety of commissions and task forces associated with DESE, SBOE and other education orientated organizations and assisting in the recruitment of new participants for each group.
- Convene and lead working groups to evaluate Missouri’s education policies, practices and regulations and make recommendations for improvement based on data, expert knowledge, and best practices.
- Design scopes of work, commission and manage third party researchers to analyze particular policies, inputs and outcomes in Missouri’s public education system and make recommendations for improvement based on data, expert knowledge, and best practices.
- Develop and implement a long and short-term planning process to identify strong candidates for open seats on the SBOE and open positions at DESE.
- Apprise internal staff of anticipated changes to the regulatory landscape affecting existing and future educational initiatives and/or organizational goals.
- Acting as the subject matter expert on a variety of topics including the SBOE, DESE, state regulation frameworks, education policy, education data, and school operational procedures.
- Acting as a strategic and tactical partner that exemplifies cohesive working relationships with others,exudes a team centered focus with an ability to propose and advance solutions.
- Provide strategic and tactical direction to drive cross-discipline consistency in regulatory approach and planning.
- Ability to build a statewide advocacy organization that is active at both the grassroots level, and able to impact policy and regulatory decisions amongst elected officials, SBOE and DESE.
- Excellent written and verbal communication (to include public speaking), analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to form and motivate cross functional groups to accomplish organizational objectives.
- Agility in effective decision-making and ability to coach and develop others while serving in a senior leadership role.
- Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of educational policies and data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
