Why BYP100?

Founded in 2013, BYP100 (Black Youth Project 100) is a member-based organization of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people. BYP100 mobilizes through building a network focused on transformative leadership development, direct action organizing, advocacy, and education. Our membership core believes in the principles of decision-making, radical inclusivity, and is building a Black politic through a Black, queer, feminist lens.

Organizationally, BYP100 centers their work on ending systems of anti-Blackness and emphasizing the urgency of protecting folks living on the margins of the margins, including women, girls, femmes, and the gamut of LGBTQ folk. Through relational organizing which involves community building through a democratic and consensus building process, BYP100 stresses training in grassroots organizing, fundraising, public policy, and electoral organizing. Lastly, BYP100 engages in digital content creation (video, graphics, blogging), political education, and consciousness raising.

Are you the next Organizing Director of BYP100?

What will you do as BYP100’s next Organizing Director?

  • Lead the Organizing and Membership teams including supervision through individual and group meetings, regular communication, coaching and intentional training.
  • Provide strategic direction of shape of Organizing Team, including development, tracking, and reporting of teams’ goals, outcomes, and performance metrics
  • Mission and vision alignment in BYP100’s base building efforts and leadership development.
  • Develop and oversee BYP100 national campaign(s) and key member events.
  • Represent BYP100 in People’s Coalition for Safety & Freedom Steering Committee and local campaign work to ensure all work is strategic and in alignment with our organizational goals, capacity, and strategic plan (Freedom Forecast).
  • Manages BYP100’s organizing practice to ensure integration of issue campaigns, civic engagement, and online to offline strategy to build community power.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with partners or potential partner organizations.
Skills/Experience: 

Key lived experiences, attributes, and skillsets sought in the Organizing Director

  • Leader and organizer with experience in political strategy and in leading a diverse team.
  • Organizational and strategic decision maker.
  • Skillful at helping shift priorities to meet goals and prevent a culture of burnout.
  • Experienced team and project manager to ensure not only coordination of their work organization wide, but ensure the narratives built are true to our work and being so, also true to our mission vision and values.
  • Must be clear on what it means to be an abolitionist freedom fighter in this time, and in all things care for and center the lives of Black women, girls (cis & trans) and gender non-conforming people.
  • Must be comfortable speaking on issues of gender justice, Black liberation, policing and incarceration.
  • Must understand and have some practice in organizing models/strategies related to community building and campaigns.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in organizing or program management, preferably in member- or volunteer-led organizations
  • 2 years supervision/team management experience
  • Ability to travel as necessary - it is anticipated that this position may require travel 1-2 times per month.
  • Flexible schedule with evening and weekends as the work dictates
Compensation/Benefits: 

The salary range is $81,500-$86,463.35 with a comprehensive benefits package that includes but not limited to unlimited paid time off policy, plus paid holidays, quarterly, and winter breaks, paid six-month sabbatical after 3 years of continuous employment, quarterly and EOY Bonuses, and fully employer paid insurance coverage.
