For more than 55 years, The Nature Conservancy has worked in Wisconsin with a broad spectrum of stakeholders to protect Wisconsin’s lands and waters for people and nature. We also strive to transform the way people value and use our natural resources so that it is more sustainable such as working with farmers to improve water quality and maintain working lands and livelihoods. This role is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants and contract management, preparing financial reports, preparing journal entries and customer service. This position also involves frequent interaction with staff throughout the Wisconsin chapter.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Finance/Accounting Assistant III generally supports the finance/accounting functions of the business unit. Duties include accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants and contract management, preparing financial reports, preparing journal entries and customer service. They are responsible for expeditiously and courteously responding to, routing, or resolving inquiries and requests from internal and/or external customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Processes all accounts payable for the Wisconsin Business Unit
- Processes all bank deposits for both donations and other receivables
- Processes accounts receivable entry into our accounting system
- Creates and monitors all vendor contracts
- Creates and monitors all grant agreements to partners
- Monitors all building leases
- Participates in the annual budgeting process
- Ensures TNC policies and procedures are met.
- Prepares financial reports and journal entries
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field and 3 years' related work experience or equivalent combination.
- Exposure to basic principles of accounting/finance.
- Experience using automated and electronic accounting systems and Excel.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Strong attention to detail, including accuracy in work products and the ability to self manage; establish priorities and meeting deadlines
