The Seasonal Winter Field Technician performs and participates in the operation of nature preserves, maintenance and management.  

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

The Seasonal Winter Field Tech will do winter invasive species management at Indian Boundary Prairies and at nearby partner agency preserves. S/he will maintain tolls and equipment, cut woody invasive species and treat with herbicide, and maintain preserve areas.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.                
  • Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.               
  • Works under close or infrequent supervision.
  • May interact with visitors      
Skills/Experience: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or GED and/or 6 months of related experience              
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. mower, weed-whacker, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
  • Must have or be able to obtain IL Pesticide Operators License

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license, and maintain a good driving record.
  • Some familiarity with natural areas and native and exotic plant species
Additional Information: 

This is a part-time (21 hours per week) seasonal position from December 4, 2017 to February 28, 2018. This position pays $14.40 per hour.
