The Seasonal Winter Field Technician performs and participates in the operation of nature preserves, maintenance and management.
Areas of Responsibility:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Seasonal Winter Field Tech will do winter invasive species management at Indian Boundary Prairies and at nearby partner agency preserves. S/he will maintain tolls and equipment, cut woody invasive species and treat with herbicide, and maintain preserve areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
- Works under close or infrequent supervision.
- May interact with visitors
Skills/Experience:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED and/or 6 months of related experience
- Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. mower, weed-whacker, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
- Must have or be able to obtain IL Pesticide Operators License
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to obtain a driver’s license, and maintain a good driving record.
- Some familiarity with natural areas and native and exotic plant species
Additional Information:
This is a part-time (21 hours per week) seasonal position from December 4, 2017 to February 28, 2018. This position pays $14.40 per hour.
