Take a leading role in electrical system design for various Remote Imaging projects. Takes charge of architectural design, analog and digital subsystem design, firmware, software, prototyping, and testing. Manage circuit board fabrication and population. Works as an individual contributor or manages technicians and contractors to achieve project goals. Participates in design reviews and prepares and maintains documentation. Provide technical field support for Remote Imaging gear. Perform National Geographic outreach.
Areas of Responsibility:
- System Design: Designs electronic circuits from an architectural level down to a component level. This will include conceptual design, prototyping, software development, and testing. In addition, this employee will work with other engineers to direct component and vendor selection, schematic capture, printed circuit board layout, and manufacture. Manage all aspects of overall electrical system design. (40%)
- Documentation: Prepares and maintains professional engineering documentation on designs following best practices of the field. Prepares users manuals and training material. (15%)
- Engineering Research: Conducts research on a continuing and regular basis to ensure that National Geographic remains abreast of the latest developments in the fields of photography, audio, data collection and other relevant technologies. Attends technical conferences. (15%)
- Reports and Presentations: Prepares reports and presentations on new or potential projects and technologies. Determine cost, schedule, and feasibility for new designs. Presents papers at technical conferences. (15%)
- Deployment Support: Supports field deployments as needed. This employee will travel to deployments that require engineering support. (15%)
Skills/Experience:
Minimum Education Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
- 3+ years experience as an Electrical Engineer.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Project management. Proficiency with embedded systems development, software development, Spice circuit simulation, National Instruments LabVIEW, mathematical analysis software (MATLAB), and electrical test equipment (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators).
