Our Senior Membership Director is charged with the leading the membership operations of our family center, and with significantly growing the number of members we serve. The Senior Membership Director also helps us shape how we change the lives of the people we serve, thereby maximizing the longevity of each membership.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Senior Membership Director directs all aspects of membership for the Y Family Center including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned associates. Develops, plans and implements procedures and methods within Association guidelines to achieve sales and strategic goals. Assists the directors and the management team in development of member-centered programs and provides leadership role as assigned to the annual fundraising campaign.

- Effectively plans and executes strategies that support new member recruitment and ensures that sales goals are met.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Implements membership strategies that support retention of existing members. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
- Recruits, hires, train, and develop associates and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates associates’ performance.
- Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances
- Ensures proper implementation of service desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to associates. Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
- Organizes membership events at the Y and represents the Y at community events to promote the Y.
- Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.
- Performs all duties and functions of Membership Associate level I and II.
- Works closely with and follows the direction of the Vice President of Membership to ensure standard delivery of the Association Membership Agenda.
- Participates in associates meetings and/or related meetings.
- Plans, schedules and leads all membership associate meetings.
- Adheres to all policies, guidelines, rules, best practices as outlined by the Y of Central Maryland or directed by supervisor.
- Assists in all areas as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous supervisory experience in sales and customer service preferred which would include three or more years’ experience in managing exempt personnel or equivalency preferred
- Supervision of a 2,000+ membership unit Y or equivalency preferred
- Supervision of budget exceeding $1.5M
- Demonstrated track record of generating leads and closing sales
- Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing results oriented retention and engagement strategies
- Strategic planning and tactical execution experience that resulted in achievement of goals
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
