This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA program(s) for youth at the Branch as well as directs the summer day camp program, family activities and class offerings at the Hanby Outdoor Center.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives including youth hobby, interest and physical education programs at the Branch.
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives including the summer day camp program, Spring, Summer and Fall program offerings and family events at the Hanby Outdoor Center.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the branch and community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
- Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Including use of BAR and Listen First skills. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- May assist with Program Committee meetings.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Monitors daily camp operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Purchases and maintains supplies for camp activities.
- Secures facilities and admission for day camp field trips and events including arranging transportation.
- Actively plans and participates in activities and events that recruit, engage and retain family members.
Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
