The Job

Your job will be to support the Director of Communications to tell MFJ’s story and develop campaigns to attract the attention and partnership of media, funders, practitioners, and community members. You’ll assist with all things related to PR and marketing as well as helping MFJ attract and retain funders.

Areas of Responsibility: 

We are seeking a generalist who is an outstanding writer, communicator and marketer - excited to dive into any project as part of a small, but growing organization. Your job will include opportunities to be involved in the big picture, creative planning, to create campaigns and run events - and your job will involve rolling up your sleeves to write a press release, pitch a story, research prospective funders or format a newsletter.

What You Will Do, Specifically:  

  • Work with the Director of Communications on PR, communication and marketing tactics to to build awareness of MFJ’s brand, products, solutions, and services;

  • Assist the Director of Communications and the Vice President of Development with researching and drafting materials related to fundraising and grant applications; 

  • Assist Vice President of Development with researching and tracking prospective funders; 

  • Build MFJ’s presence on various social media and thought leadership platforms (Medium, e.g.) and help to generate regular content;

  • Develop and help lead on- and off-line events that attract an array of audiences (media, funders, criminal justice organizations);

  • Help manage and parse MFJ’s media and funder contact lists.

Skills/Experience: 

About You 

  • PR/Marketing experience (~4-6 years) identifying, researching, and crafting compelling stories and campaigns;

  • Thrive in fast-paced environments; 

  • Strong writing and editing skills; experience developing narratives based on data preferred but not required;

  • Ability to transition from high-level strategic thinking to deep-dive, roll-up-your sleeves work.

  • Firm grasp of how to engage on social media and create content in different forms including video, podcasting, etc.  

  • Strong people, communication, presentation skills;

  • Work well under deadline;

  • Detail oriented and highly organized (can juggle multiple projects at once);

  • Demonstrated relationship-building experience;

  • Experience with fundraising and development welcome but not required;

  • Passionate about wanting to do good in the world.
