The National Health Officer assists local Ys to integrate their programs and services with the health care system.
The National Health Officer (“NHO”) partners with local Ys to champion, shape, and operationalize health care integration strategies, leveraging existing evidence-based health programs while developing other value-added integration strategies. Reporting to the Executive Vice President (EVP), Chief Membership and Program Officer (“M&P”), the NHO is a member of the senior management team of the M&P Department and serves on the Leadership Group of Y-USA.
This position has the ability to work remotely and does not require relocation to the national office located in Chicago, IL.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop strategies with local Ys to operationalize community integrated health models into sustainable revenue to support the Y’s mission.
- Help further the strategy to leverage and grow Y-USA’s MSO in order to continue to support and help sustain the Y’s community integrated health work.
- Hire, manage, develop, promote, and retain a team of diverse, highly-qualified, results and customer service-oriented staff.
- Develop and support a network of Ys engaged in community integrated health and leverage knowledge created by such network for local Ys.
- Develop and support national partnerships that can activate local efforts to promote community integrated health.
- Serve as an internal champion and thought leader for community integrated health by translating a deep knowledge of health care systems, the health care regulatory environment, and health care business practices to local Ys and Y-USA.
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing national partners (e.g., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, American Medical Association, American Heart Association, etc.).
- Serve as an external champion and thought leader for community integrated health by helping Ys develop or further relationships with local health partners such as hospital systems, payers, employers, doctors, business leaders, government agencies, and philanthropic partners.
- Develop the strategy for evidence-based health interventions to drive growth of collaborations with health care partners and deepen impact for local Ys.
- Build and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders, including local Y leaders, other Y-USA departments, and outside partners.
- Act as the medical expert in working with potential funders, vendors, and non-medical departments that work within the organization.
- Cultivate a healthy and positive team culture.
- Accountable for deliverables and finances associated with grants made to Y-USA that support community integrated health.
- Direct the activity of executives of Y-USA involved in executing the business plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience:
- Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) required; Master of Healthcare Administration or Master of Health Care Management degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in clinical medicine.
- Minimum 10 years of experience managing teams.
- Minimum 5 years of hospital administration, medical practice administration or similar.
- A deep knowledge of the business of health care, the health care regulatory environment, chronic disease prevention, and collective impact methods is required.
- A knowledge of the industry, methods, and approaches to selling health care, including knowledge of wellness program strategies, to 3rd party payers is preferred.
- Ability to work successfully with a broad array of constituents inside and outside the Y with varying degrees of sophistication in health care is required.
- Ability to travel approximately 40% of the time
- A strong customer service-oriented approach is required.
- A familiarity working with local, state, and federal health agencies, including CMS and the CDC is required.
- A familiarity with managing grants from public and private funders is preferred.
- Ability to challenge conventional thinking yet must be able to meet Ys where they are in their own efforts to integrate with health care.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills are required.
- Outstanding public speaking, presentation, and written communication skills are required.
- Experience in start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures is preferred
- Excellent project management skills are required
- A commitment to health equity is required.
