Founded on Christian principles, and inspired by our vision and commitment to transform lives and communities, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte seeks a Christian Mission Director. Under the supervision of the Chief Social Responsibility Officer, the Christian Mission Director will oversee and help ensure a Christian Mission focus for the organization and support creating a culture and environment where the Christian values can be demonstrated and experienced by all. This role will work collaboratively internally and externally to plan and implement Christian-based initiatives for YMCA members, staff team, volunteers and the communities we serve. In addition, the position will help drive alignment and standardization with existing Church and other faith-based partnerships and build relationships to strengthen a strong heritage of Christian-centered organizational values. The Director will help develop and implement strategy to enhance the mission of the YMCA including providing guidance, support, resources, and tools to YMCA branches across the association. This position will be responsible for promoting the YMCA mission throughout the greater Charlotte area and its four-county region and camps.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide spiritual leadership as requested and a positive Christian presence to members, volunteers and team.
  • Works with the CEO and the Chief Social Responsibility Officer to support the association Christian Mission Committee, its sub-committees and providing direct leadership to help standardize and guide Christian Mission branch sub-committees.
  • Provide oversight, direction and utilize independent judgment and decision making for all events and conferences to include, the Christian Leadership Conference (200+ participants), the Community Prayer Breakfast(2000+ participants) and partnership events activated by the committee.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to the voluntary spiritual mentoring programs for members and team.
  • Provide support to team, volunteers and members as requested through partners, programs, activities and events that foster personal spiritual development.
  • Collaborate with team and volunteers to initiate a volunteer lead Christian Mission Committee at each branch/camp and insure that the facility, programs and membership functions reflect the YMCA of Greater Charlotte core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.
  • Promote, support and assist the Christian mission efforts in each branch/camp including stargazing the agreements with church partnerships and supporting special events.
  • Works with the Chief Social Responsibility Officer in the creation and development of chaplaincy programs at each branch location working alongside partners.
  • Establish collaborations with other faith-based organizations to further the YMCA mission, including and but exclusive of For Charlotte.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget and works with the Chief Social Responsibility Officer and Chief Development Officer to secure resources to ensure the sustainability of the Christian Mission area.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive, year-round promotion plan to continually deepen the involvement of the YMCA mission and core values to the community
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 years experience working with volunteers and/or groups of people
  • Minimum of 10 years experience as a spiritual leader and leadership presence
  • An ecumenical understanding of Christian faith
  • Possesses good listening skills
  • Possesses good follow-through and administrative skills
  • Experience and understanding of YMCA operations and the connectivity to community volunteers
  • Experience and understanding of fundraising to accomplish the department goals
  • Willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to handle diverse responsibilities resourcefully and multi-task effectively

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Theology or related field preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

  • Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $54,081.00 - $67,602.00
