The Wellness Director will lead healthy living programs in a new, downtown, 52,000-sq-ft world class Y with 10,000 members.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, this individual is responsible for leading health and wellness programs and managing daily wellness operations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, delivering personal training and fitness instruction; selecting, supervising, developing, and evaluating staff; developing and managing department budget; developing cooperative partnerships; and creating new programs to meet community needs; member retention initiatives are the primary responsibility of the Wellness Director.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Works closely with membership team to guide formal onboarding program to engage members in first 90 days of membership.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and on-going training of staff.
  • Coordinates special events and activities.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
  • Creates and schedules wellness classes.
  • Hires, trains and supervises assigned staff which may include coordinators, instructors and trainers.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities.
  • Purchases equipment, parts and supplies as required.
  • Coordinates and schedules equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field, Master’s preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years of management experience in a variety of YMCA activities.
  • YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyles Coach preferred.
  • YMCA Team Leader Preferred.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Proficiency in Daxko Operations software preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $42,000.00 - $50,000.00
