The Aquatics Director ensures the aquatic operation including the outside pool, aquatic programing that includes, swim lessons, swim team, and lifeguard classes are planned, organized, and delivered in compliance with the YUSA Aquatic programing guidelines and the Rules that Govern competitive sports. Additionally, The Aquatics Director will spend his or her time teaching/instructing program participants. They will maintain open and clear communication with parents, volunteers and YMCA staff in regard to aquatic program expectations, logistics and safety guidelines. Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff-Lifeguards, swim instructors, swim coaches. Additional responsibilities include hiring, payroll functionality, and training of staff; curriculum development and evaluation; budget management; and adhering to all regulatory standards. Also provides liaison to committee(s) and advisory board(s) and participates in annual campaign activities.
- Develop curriculum, implement, manage and use data to ensure quality delivery a high-quality, mission-focused, swim program for youth ages 6 months-18 through innovative program development, data-driven evaluations and ongoing training of staff. Competitive swim experience preferred
- Teach/instruct participants through use of an appropriate swim lessons curriculum that addresses the skill levels of all participants and assures the program is inclusive and welcoming for all.
- Offer a year round aquatic programing that includes a competitive summer league, stroke, turn, specialized clinics and a year around swim lesson program.
- Interface and interact with swim team parents and swim lesson participants to communicate and resolve any concerns that arise.
- Develop and oversee the swim lesson schedule and swim team practice schedule of all levels, attend all level home meets and support the entire competitive program.
- Create a volunteer workforce to run dual meets and invitational swim meets that are consistent with YMCA and Summer Swim League swimming standards.
- Manage and organize participation, registration and logistics of swimmers at all swim meets.
- Follow association guidelines related to budget, travel and meet participation. Refer to budget manual, personnel manual and supervisor for specific clarification as needed.
- Coordinate vacation outside of the competitive season responsibilities.
- Hires, trains, and supervises assigned staff in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership to staff and volunteers.
- Oversees all payroll functionality for assigned staff including but not limited to: timecard approvals, changes and scheduling of assigned staff.
- Takes leadership role for branch mission advancement and annual campaign activities.
- Maintain a clean and risk-free environment and correct within prescribed emergency response procedures. Escalate safety/ risk concerns with appropriate urgency.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Competitive Swimming Experience highly preferred
- At least 2 Years of experience managing a team of lifeguards; with outside pool management experience preferred
- Current Lifeguard certifications
- USA swimming coaches credentials
- Three years of supervisory experience required
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English
- Ability to demonstrate all strokes
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire
