This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Association Aquatic Director, the Aquatics Director serves as a liaison between the branch and association office.

This position is responsible for providing Cause-Driven leadership to the Aquatic Departments that fosters a culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.

The Aquatics Director will be responsible for creating and implementing an integrated program strategy to support membership while delivering services as outlined by best practices and association-wide standards. This position ensures that their team operates efficiently and with quality to meet and/or exceed goals for member/participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth.

Critical areas of expertise include: leading others and working in teams, highly organized multi-program management, delivering and managing programs focusing on quality, proven results in growth in programs, successfully overseeing part-time and entry-level teams and interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training staff

Areas of Responsibility: 

STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and manage a high performing staff focused on providing exceptional service and work well as a team.
  • Develop strategies to provide support and motivation to staff for the achievement of goalsm and retention.
  • Maintain staff retention through positive reinforcement and support.
  • Ensure adequate lifeguard coverage of all pools during operating hours.
  • Ensure lifeguard, swim lesson instructor and safety certification trainings comply with provider code of conduct and standards.
  • Responsible for safety drills/audits, monthly documented staff meetings/development and trainings.
  • Ensures staff certification records are current and fulfill all in-service standards.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance.

PROGRAM OPERATIONS:

  • Effectively communicate the mission, vision and values of the YMCA.
  • Ensure all programs comply with YMCA standards and methods of operation.
  • Integrate member-service and engagement strategies that are consistent with the strategic plan to ensure positive member recruitment and retention.
  • Effectively monitor and adjust program enrollment and participation as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, retention, member and non-member participation.
  • Ensure progress reports are distributed consistently to program participants.
  • Monitor and evaluate the delivery and effectiveness of programs and staff for the highest possible level of quality.
  • Be available to staff and members.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries and concerns within a timely manner.
  • Communicate program information, changes and needs in a timely manner to supervisor and branch staff.

FISCAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Develop, monitor and meet or exceed budget targets.
  • Produce effective and efficient staff and program schedules.
  • Ensures resources are devoted to top priorities and objectives based on budget.

FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Provide leadership for assigned aspects of Annual Support Campaign, special events and other fund development to ensure fundraising goals are met.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT:

  • Organize, plan and schedule pools for instructional and recreational activities.
  • Maintain complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
  • Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state and local health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure program area and equipment remains in an orderly, clean and safe condition. Report any irregularities to maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and organized department records.
  • Keep an up to date inventory on all equipment, materials and supplies.

OTHER:

  • Serve as a member of the branch management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.
  • Communicate information promptly to all branch leadership and departmental staff.
  • Attend applicable training and conferences to further professional development.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree and /or 3-5 years of experience in aquatics with supervisory and customer service experience required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  • Ability to work a schedule that reflects the needs of the department, branch, and association.
  • Strong people skills, organizational and administrative skills, experience in program development, supervision, work with volunteers, financial development and member service.
  • Complete all online training within the first seven (7) days of hire

CERTIFICATIONS/TRAININGS REQUIRED:

  • CPR-PRO/AED, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration, Lifeguarding, and Swim Instructor.
  • Must have the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment and maintain certifications as a Certified Pool Operator, Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer and Lifeguard Instructor.
