This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Executive Director/CEO, The Director of Development will lead the implementation of the Y’s Development Plan that will advance the organizational sustainability through annual giving, special events, grants, capital and endowment campaigns.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Capital Campaign:

  • Maintain and update confidential donor records, including meeting notes, required actions, and relevant information for donor stewardship.
  • Prepare necessary documents and communications for individual donor meetings, including follow up.
  • Take minutes, meeting notes and manage action steps from Capital Campaign cabinet meetings and/or donor meetings.
  • Coordinate special events, such as dinner parties and cultivation events as they relate to donor stewardship.
  • Communicate to donors and cabinet members as necessary.

Annual Campaign:

  • Along with the CEO, create the annual campaign plan and calendar of activities, events and strategies.
  • Recruit and support members of the Fundraising committee to assist with annual campaign implementation. Activities to include identifying prospects, creating engagement and developing & implementing stewardship strategies. Take minutes and manage action steps from meetings.
  • Coordinate and activate all activities related to the YMCA’s major annual events including Wine Dinner and Road Race. Activities include recruitment of volunteers, communication of plans and coordination of logistics for successful execution of the events.
  • Coordinate and implement successful Send a Kid to Camp and Giving Tuesday campaigns. Activities include donor communications, online campaign coordination, internal and external communications.

Grant Writing:

  • Create and manage an annual and multi-year grant calendar, including application deadlines, status, stewardship tracking and required reporting.
  • Identify new, relevant grant opportunities.
  • Coordinate with YMCA Program Directors and, wherever possible, collaborating agencies for the data preparation and grant writing process.

 Endowment:

  • Work closely with CEO to identify endowment prospects.
  • Develop a cultivation plan for all prospects.
  • Coordinate and implement a bi-annual Heritage event.
  • Coordinate and implement a bi-annual Heritage event.
  •  Board Development:
  • Work with the CEO to manage Board member relationships and new board member cultivation.
  • Coordinate and plan Annual Celebration.
  • Attend Board meetings and take the minutes. Review action steps for staff and volunteers with CEO.
  • Serve as a member of the YMCA’s Leadership Team and attend related meetings and functions.
  •  All other dutiesas assigned by supervisor.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, development, communications, marketing, public relations or equivalent. Masters Degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 2 years proven success in philanthropy with experience in annual giving, foundation and corporate gifts, capital development and planned giving preferred.
  • Direct experience working with Boards of Directors, board committees and fundraising volunteers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Required Certifications

  • CPR/AED First Aid certification with classroom practicum required within 90 days of hire.
  • Connecticut Sexual Harassment training of 2 hours required within 6 months of hire.
  • Other Certifications as required for position along with any State and Federal mandated requirements.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
