Manager of Caring Connections, a mission-driven Y community program supporting individuals of all ages who have received a cancer diagnosis.

The Manager is a community organizer who develops, implements, manages and evaluates Caring Connections goals while increasing the program's impact and visibility through strong relationships with cancer patients, survivors, providers, partners, volunteers and the community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage the development, implementation, operations and evaluation of Caring Connections including program expansion in close partnership with community members and organizations and the program’s 24-year partner Northern Light Health Eastern Maine Medical Center.
  • Work with Caring Connections and Y staff and community partners to research and design evidence-based program objectives, strategies and an evaluation plan that ensure program goals are met and strategic outcomes delivered.
  • Initiate and nurture established community partnerships to ensure the growth and financial sustainability of the program particularly in the area of outcome measurement to illustrate the program’s impact.
  • Assist the Y Grants Director with funding development, process and execution.
  • Recruit, supervise and evaluate program interns and volunteers.
  • Expand and maintain a strong referral program with local practitioners.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develop and monitor program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Act as a role model for the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in dealing with staff, members and children.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
College graduate preferably with a background in community organizing, community impact work, or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in non-profits and healthcare desirable. Five plus years of related experience.
  • Must possess the ability to build and maintain relationships with people and community to work toward the common goals of Caring Connections.
  • Be able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities and problem-solve issues as they arise.
  • Be an effective communicator – both oral and in writing – with strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to establish a rapport and successfully cultivate relationships with members of the Caring Connections program, the Y, medical providers, and diverse partners and groups.
  • Must be able to travel and present at various community outreach events.
  • Possess strong research, evaluation and computer skills.
