The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is seeking an experienced and ambitious Sports Director.

The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is seeking an experienced and ambitious Sports Director who will be responsible for the development, supervision, and direct administration of youth and adult sports program. This individual will enthusiastically represent the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job through the four character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The Sports Director will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals whileinspiring youth to discover their passions.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training all staff and volunteers relating to assigned programs.
  • Develop and oversee youth and adult sports programs, tournaments, special interest classes, court facilities, and facility rentals.
  • Develop and manage department budget.
  • Develop and implement new programs that meet the needs of the community and the goals and objectives of youth and adult sports programs as set forth by the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region.
  • Develop and implement an adequate marketing strategy to assure the success of youth and adult sports programs.
  • Administer all aspects of adult physical education programs including instruction, leagues, and tournaments.
  • Administer all aspects of the youth and adult sport programs, including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and baseball.
  • Responsible for securing sponsor ships for youth and adult sports programs.
  • Establish, improve, and maintain collaborative relationships by meeting individually with school principals and other key community members who assist in developing and continuing programs.
  • Responsible for scheduling, supervising, and administering off-site facility rentals according to association guidelines.
  • Participate as an equal partner in membership retention efforts and in the responsibilities assigned to all exempt staff.
  • Conduct department staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Participate in Director on Duty assignments and responsibilities.
  • Assist in the volunteer development, community development and fund development activities within the assigned center. Responsible for raising financial contributions and community sponsorships for the Y..
  • Attend community and association functions and events to promote the Y, its mission and programs.
  • Represent the association and maintain relationships in a professional manner with organizations such as the police department, group homes, City Recreation Department, and school districts in the Colorado Springs community.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field with minimum of 6 months FT experience OR AA/AS degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Three to five years FT experience in department OR 5 to 7 years FT experience in department with proven leadership experience
  • Experience with hiring, training, mentoring and supervising staff / volunteers as well as guiding and monitoring staff/volunteer teams
  • Experience with program design, development, implementation and retention.
  • Have working knowledge of sports and coaching fundamentals.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, including some nights and most Saturdays.
  • Able to manage, monitor and achieve department budget.
  • Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00
