Based in Bethesda, MD (HQ), the Senior Medical Director of Community Partnerships provides strategic direction to programs and activities that strengthen and synchronize the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s efforts to support people with CF and their families, enable connections among them, and integrate their voices into all of the Foundations’ activities. Inspiration comes from the community, rather than as a top-down approach. The position also provides medical expertise to inform and guide support and connection programs. The Senior Medical Director of Community Partnerships will work in collaboration with the Clinical and Research Affairs teams and Policy & Advocacy, Communications, and Field teams to develop coordinated approaches to engage and partner with people with CF and family members. The Senior Medical Director also will collaborate with these departments to support and connect people with CF and family members. This position works with the Community Partnerships’ Senior Business Director to oversee budget management, annual planning process, and all other business-related activities in the department and provides professional guidance to all Community Partnerships managers.
- Provides high level strategic guidance and medical knowledge and insight for the four workstreams within the Community Partnerships department:
- Community Partnering & Engagement - directs insight generation and integration activities to ensure the voice of the community is embedded in all that the CF Foundation does. Works with other departments to provide tools and services to integrate that community perspective.
- Virtual Events – leads efforts in creating online spaces and events for people with CF and their families; supports expansion of virtual spaces to other groups within the CF Foundation.
- Strategic Collaborations – identifies and works with individuals and organizations outside of the CF Foundation to expand our ability to support and partner with people touched by CF in their daily lives.
- Support Programming –leads peer to peer mentoring program for adults with CF and adult family members and teen connection groups; may explore and execute additional programming for younger children; will work with Clinical Affairs to assess and harmonize programs to support community wellness.

- Seeks counsel from the Adult Advisory Committee and keeps them informed of department activities.
- Interacts with other Department Heads, especially as part of the annual Community Partnerships strategic and business planning process.
- Identifies opportunities for synergy with other departments and develops the relationships needed to establish collaborations.
- Participates in cross-departmental committees (e.g. but not limited to values development, Community Focus Forum).
- Participates in major Foundation events (e.g. but not limited to NACFC, VLC, ResearchCon, Annual Meeting presentations).
- Provides regular updates and quarterly business reviews to the Executive Team.
- Provides counsel when external challenges require development of recommendations to executive leadership.
- Interacts with the national Board as needed.
- Seeks opportunities to share knowledge and insights in arenas external to CFF (professional meetings and publications).
- Embeds the CF Foundation’s values in all activities.
- Deep understanding and receptiveness to aspects of living with cystic fibrosis, with particular expertise in medical issues associated with adult cystic fibrosis preferred.
- Significant experience with CFF care model, including insight into patient-care center partnership and chapter-care center partnership.
- Expertise and previous experience in CF-related research preferred.
- Significant participation in national CF Foundation activities.
- Fifteen or more years of relevant professional experience; experience acting in a supervisory role strongly desired.
- Advanced knowledge of strategic planning and project management.
