Manages the implementation, development and delivery of the Arts and Humanities programs andsupports all facets of Day Camp operation including staff scheduling, training and supervision. Responsibilities include hiring and training of staff; curriculum development; budget control; and adhering to all regulatory and Association standards. The Director of Youth Programming and Camp leads the Arts and Humanities and Camp teams in providing a safe environment. Provides leadership in expanding Arts and Humanities and Camp programming.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Develops and grows Arts and Humanities programming with a focus on Art, Music, Theater and Dance programs for children and adults and Arts and Humanities summer camp programs.
- Oversee and implement day camp curriculum with emphasis of theme week/days and fun activities for campers.
- Responsible for the planning, scheduling, and supervision of Camp Overnights and Family Fun Events for camp.
- Ensures high-quality programs through innovative program development.
- Models the importance of building connections among staff, members, program participants and volunteers.
- Models effective listening skills when interacting with staff, members and volunteers. Ensures that staff have opportunities to develop their own listening skills.
- Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Ensures appropriate onboarding and development for success.
- Director in scheduling, training, supervising and evaluating day camp staff.
- Assist with scheduled camp staff meetings.
- Coordinate, develop, and implement plans for themes, lessons, and age-appropriate activities for camp that reflect the philosophy of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.
- Provide direction and communication feedback to counselors regarding related issues as well as administrative issues and decisions.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with the directors, staff, parents and families by way of open communication, positive problem solving, flexibility, and teamwork.
- Maintain ACA requirements/ratios and ensure all staff members do the same.
- Monitor and maintain bus schedule for mid-day bus run.
- Assists with annual campaign activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services or another related field
Skills/Experience:
- Experience with youth programs preferred
- Two years of direct supervisory experience with art programs, special events programs or family programs required
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff required
- Preferred knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English
- Knowledge of database software preferred
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Good judgment and ability to problem solve
- Ability to effectively use technology for programmatic needs
- Attend all required pre-camp and camp season trainings and meetings as scheduled
- Obtain and maintain all new hires certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $42,000.00 - $44,000.00
