The CTO creates, develops and executes the strategy and policies of the organization related to technology infrastructure.
The Vice President, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) serves as the Chief Operations Officer’s (COO) key partner and works with senior leadership team members in achieving the Y’s vision for the national organization in technology. The CTO creates, develops and executes the strategy and policies of the organization related to technology infrastructure, application systems, mobile technology, social media and data warehouse infrastucture, which supports the organizational goals. In concert with other senior leaders, the CTO drives strategies to accomplish the priorities established for the YMCA of the USA’s national organization. In addition, this position serves as the focal point for driving IT thought leadership and best practices across the Movement.
This position identifies changes and trends in computer and systems technology and translates potential impact and strategic opportunities to senior leaders. Determines current and long-term organization-wide technology needs and develops overall strategy for technology needs, systems development and hardware acquisition, and integration of applications. The CTO acts to ensure integrity of organization-wide data, proprietary information, and related intellectual property through information security and access management.
This position will oversee the data, systems, and information technology that drive it, which is vital in the fulfillment of the strategic plan and goals. This work will aid in advancing the strategic objectives of the YMCA Movement.
- Develops and executes the organization’s short and long-term plans and strategies related to all areas of IT that are critical to the organization and the Movement.
- Provides senior IT leadership for Y-USA and the Movement including thought leadership, best practices sharing, skills development and timely execution.
- Supervises, recruits, engages and evaluates staff to develop high performing teams.
- Utilizes and provides oversight to a strong project management system, utilizing a disciplined vetting system for prioritizing and adding new projects.
- Aligns systems and information technology to organizational objectives and strategies ensuring the strengthening of operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Directs the information and data integrity of the organization and for all information technology functions including: internal applications development, strategic third party systems, technology infrastructure and mobile computing.
- Consults with and advises the COO on matters related to systems and information technology.
- Ensures data integrity and security within the enterprise infrastructure and applications.
- Evaluates new ways to help the organization grow from how technology is used while focusing on the qualitative and quantitative “return on investment” created by designated teams/departments and holds them accountable for achieving agreed upon goals.
- Oversees budgets, resource allocations, processes; and monitors financial performance of assigned areas.
- Optimizes costs of services through a mix of internal and external sources.
- Creates and promotes a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment.
- The Vice President, Chief Technology Officer position will be based at YMCA of the USA's National Office located at 101 N Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL. Relocation to the Chicago land area is a requirement of this position.
- 10 years of senior level experience leading successful strategy and execution efforts within complex organizations is required.
- Proven successful track record as a CTO of a national organization, significant division/line of business is required or complex nonprofit organization CTO.
- Comprehensive experience and expertise in the strategy and development related to application development, infrastructure optimization, mobile computing, data and analytics are required. In addition, experience in developing/implementing data governance and enterprise architecture is highly desired.
- Experience in integrating disparate systems and architectures into a cohesive enterprise architecture and information management infrastructure is required.
- Successful track record building and leading high performing IT teams in achieving desired outcomes is required.
- Exceptional leadership and innovation skills; including diplomacy, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build trust, unquestioned integrity and pragmatism are required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Demonstrated record as action-taker and experience successfully creating strategies and executing plans to meet organizational objectives are required.
- Expertise in understanding business issues and ability to solve via technology and business process reengineering in collaboration with business unit leaders and senior managements are required.
- Effective management of vendor relationships.
- Knowledge of CRM’s utilized by YMCA’s and the ability to provide advice and counsel to local Y’s in this area.
- Knowledge and experience in the digital realm that enables the CTO to work with the leadership team of the Open Y group that is leading the Movement’s digital work.
- Ability to provide advice and counsel to local YMCA IT leaders to assist them in their work.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time is required.

Salary: $220,000.00 - $240,000.00
