Contributes to the achievement of strategic priorities by providing support for state advocacy work and by providing technical assistance to staff and volunteers. Works directly with volunteers and staff to ensure implementation of AARP legislative, advocacy and nonpartisan voter education goals and activities including volunteer recruitment, training and engagement. Keeps records and prepares reports; drafts correspondences, testimony and other written materials; manages events and scheduling; and makes use of technology to increase the effectiveness of our advocacy. Ensures an excellent consumer experience for volunteers, members and others who contact the state office. May perform a combination of the following duties described below depending upon assignment.
- Supports efforts of state office staff and volunteers in implementation of legislative and public policy issue campaigns, voter education efforts, lobbying and grassroots activities.
- Works with Advocacy ASD and Manager to carry out effective strategies for advocacy-related activities and events. Manages logistics for advocacy-related events and collaborates with national staff, other state staff and community partners as required.
- Provides administration and support for advocacy volunteers including but not limited to the intake and orientation of new volunteers, equipping volunteers for their advocacy-related activities, and tracking and reporting volunteer activities.
- Monitors the state office voice mail and email accounts, responding or conveying information as needed.
- Creates flyers, brochures, alerts, direct mail pieces, training materials, and other resource materials to support AARP activities.
- Gathers information, analyzes data, and compiles reports.
- Navigates AARP’s systems and processes including Teradata, Cvent, Knowlegis, AARPMap, Convio, OGC’s MOUs and Navigator.
- Manages scheduling for the State Director.
- Demonstrates AARP values in all interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well both written and orally.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others, lead project teams, and collaborate with and forge effective internal and external partnerships across groups and departments.
- Ability to prioritize work load assignments and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with computer software systems including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
- Interest in issues affecting the lives of people 50+, including health care, financial security, caregiving, livable communities and more.
- Travel may be required.
