The Program Manager for Ending Gun Violence at AIUSA will manage and direct the organization’s work to reduce deaths from gun violence in the United States and other countries. The Program Manager will work with member leaders and staff from across various departments to develop and implement a program strategy as well as a strategy and launch plan for an impactful priority campaign and report launch. The position collaborates with staff and members to implement these strategies and a range of tactics, including grassroots activism, advocacy, communications, coalition building, training and public education. The Campaign Manager will coordinate work with external stakeholders, coalition partners, and local coalitions in target cities and states to lead grassroots organizing and advocacy efforts. The Campaign Manager will also work with Amnesty International sections in targeted countries where these human rights issues are relevant.
- Provides overall strategy and direction for AIUSA’s program and campaign work on gun violence.
- Coordinates the work of a cross functional team that includes representatives of many of AIUSA’s departments and teams to ensure the strategic alignment of organizational resources in support of campaign goals and outcomes.
- Engages member leaders and other stakeholders in the strategic planning and implementation of the program and campaign plan.
- Identifies and develops key alliances with organizations and community leaders to help advance the program and campaign agenda; works to strengthen and build relationships with local, state and national gun violence advocacy groups; and supports activities across a range of stakeholder organizations, advocacy groups and local coalitions.
- Supports fundraising efforts; manages the budget for the portfolio of issues; handles relationships with sub-grantees supported by a grant from a foundation.
- Coordinates work with counterparts at Amnesty International’s Secretariat (IS) and in other Amnesty sections, ensuring that AIUSA and global AI movement strategies are aligned.
- Conducts advocacy on the federal level, and works closely with various departments to build state and local advocacy strategies.
- Serves as a public spokesperson for the program and campaign; develops talking points and other resources to position Amnesty within the broader movement against gun violence.
- Utilizes creative program and campaign strategies, tactics and actions to build AIUSA’s visibility on the issue and to engage diverse constituencies in the work; assists in the development of tactics for on the ground/ community organizing in targeted cities and states.
- Develops training and educational materials and assists in training youth groups, local member groups, member leaders, and external stakeholders on human rights principles, messaging, and grassroots organizing.
- Collaborates internally with other campaign, program and administrative staff on assignments that may go beyond the targeted campaigns and externally with partner organizations, community leaders and allies as needed.
- Presents a positive image of AIUSA to others.

Education and Experience:
- At least seven years of direct experience with issue areas and campaign management
- Relevant programmatic and coalition building experience required
- Organizing and advocacy experience preferred
- Nonprofit experience preferred
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with proven ability to build cooperation, resolve problems, manage projects and/or implement appropriate solutions
- A demonstrated ability to strategize, develop, organize and run successful campaigns and programs
- Proven experience as a manager with effective planning and delegation skills
- Excellent written and oral communication including public speaking skills
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
- Proven skills in project management including budgeting
- Exceptional initiative and follow-through skills with the ability to deliver measurable results
- Strong relationships within related human rights and/or social justice advocacy communities
- Familiarity with international human rights standards related to economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights
- A commitment to uplifting diversity, equity and inclusion in programs and in organizational policies
- Strong understanding of the intersection between the criminal justice system, mass incarceration, and gun violence
- Good political judgment and strategic analysis skills
- Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, and juggle competing priorities
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
