The McGaw YMCA in Evanston, Illinois is looking for Human Resource Manager.

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Human Resources the Manager, Human Resources (HR) Generalist is responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of the human resources programs, projects, policies and procedures. The Manager, (HR) Generalist is an integral member of the HR team and will be involved in a broad range of human resources responsibilities from data entry to creating HR processes & procedures with an emphasis on creating and maintaining accurate Human Resource Information System (HRIS) employee records, employee benefits administration, managing the HRIS system and processes relating to the HRIS system, compliance and assisting and advising managers about human resource best practices. The Manager, HR Generalist is the first point of contact for employees and managers for human resource-related issues. The HR Generalist will collaborate with the Director, Talent Management & Development on recruitment and performance management processes as it relates to functions in HRIS.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Employee Records

  • Maintain all personnel records ensuring timely and accurate records.
  • Process and evaluate employee background checks.
  • Ensure employment documents are properly collected and maintained to meet regulatory requirements and in response to regulatory audit requests.
  • Responsible for employee file maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and complete personnel transactions and other personnel actions from on-boarding to terminations.
  • Process and enter HR paperwork according to established procedures
  • Compile employee statistics in response to requests & inquires
  • Respond to employment verification requests, and other requests for information.

Benefits Administration

  • Explain employment benefits and general terms and conditions of employment to employees.
  • Manage benefit programs including enrollment.
  • Administer and ensure compliance of leave of absence programs (FMLA, Non-FMLA, Short/Long Term Disability)
  • Plan and administer benefits open enrollment.
  • Administer WellnessWorks program.
  • Administer COBRA
  • Process benefits enrollments, reports and invoices.
  • Process YMCA Retirement Fund enrollments and transmittals.
  • Provide information to NSN regarding unemployment claims.

Information Systems/HRIS

  • Establish, maintain, and update the HRIS, files, databases, records and/or documents.
  • Enters and maintains accurate information in HRIS.
  • Works with Sr. Director of HR to find ways to effectively utilize HRIS, to include underused portions of the system.
  • Ensures that McGaw’s HRIS infrastructure is functional, secure and fit for purpose.
  • Assist in training managers and employees on using HRIS system.

Employee Relations/Customer Service

  • Provide customer service, answer questions from employees regarding Human Resources issues, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to leaders and employees as it relates to the work performed within the Office of Human Resources.
  • As a resource for managers, explain the HR policy and processes and provide assistance to the managers as it relates to HR issues.
  • Functions as a neutral contact for internal concerns/complaints brought forward by employees or managers, investigates in collaboration with the Sr. Director of HR.
  • Handle all employee-related matters with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Maintains working relationships with departments to enhance customer service and quality improvement.

Recruitment & Retention

  • Works with hiring managers on job postings, resume screening, offers, background checks and onboarding.
  • Collaborates with Director, Talent Management & Development on performance management and recruiting processes and procedures.

Compliance

  • Understands and adheres to all applicable federal, state, local and McGaw YMCA policies and compliance standards as they appear in employee handbook.
  • Ensure that human resources policies, procedures, and practices, such as the Employee Handbook, are executed consistently, fairly across the organization and in compliance with local, state and federal law.
  • Interpret and explain company policies to employees.
  • Provide support and training to supervisors to ensure proper and efficient HR procedures.
  • Assist with drafting and updating HR documents and correspondence.

Other

  • Research, compile and analyze data for special personnel projects and reports.
  • Contribute and participate in the development and implementation of HR initiatives, including policies, programs and efficiencies.
  • Works closely with the HR Sr. Director on key administrative and operational functions. Assist Sr. Director, HR with pay structures and people policies.
  • Assist Sr. Director of HR in administering, monitoring and improving HR programs and activities as well as, developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Partners with HR leadership to ensure critical or recurring issues have a resolution plan.
  • Other projects as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years of HR Generalist experience required/experience in HR non-profit preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of HR concepts and employment law.
  • Strong knowledge of Paycom or other HRIS suite.
  • Technologically savvy and eager to streamline internal HR and HRIS/ATS processes
  • Proficiency in MS office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is critical to success.
  • Excellent discretion and judgment when dealing with sensitive materials and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to relate to people across all levels and diverse backgrounds.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and have the ability to build relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $38,000.00 - $47,000.00
