Strategy Lead (Externship)

As an extern on the strategy team, the Strategy Lead will work closely with leadership to advance the Foundation’s strategic agenda and generate insights to drive mission-critical initiatives. Bringing expertise in advanced problem-solving, analysis, stakeholder management, and communication, the Strategy Lead will build tools and develop recommendations to support colleagues in making data-driven decisions that best support people with CF.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead and support specific cross-functional strategic initiatives (including project design, research and analytics, stakeholder management, deliverables, and presentations to leadership). Projects determined considering extern’s interest and Foundation priorities. Potential projects include:
  • Building an executive-level dashboard to support the CEO and leadership in managing the business and tracking progress against our mission.
  • Refining the long-term financial strategy in the context of our investment portfolio, fundraising revenue, and evolving business needs.
  • Modeling the shifting patient landscape and care center economics to inform priorities and care needs as therapies advance and life expectancy increases.
  • Considering the Foundation’s reach through network analysis of engaged researchers, care centers, and community members.
  • Understanding the drivers of high-performing Chapter offices and helping to install best practices across the Field in terms of fundraising and community-building activities.
  • Develop powerful recommendations based on understanding of diverse stakeholders, including people with CF, caregivers, care team members, researchers, and staff.
  • Support the Foundation in telling the “best story in medicine” to our team, board, and external stakeholders through developing compelling metrics and data visualizations.
  • Bring strong understanding of the external environment and best practices to guide approach and initiatives.
  • Partner with and advise leadership on topics relevant to their own functional areas (e.g., strategy, organization design, resource allocation and planning) as requested.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree in a relevant field a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a strategic consulting function.
  • Strong quantitative and modeling skills with ability to distill complex information to intuitive graphs, tables and other visuals. Proficiency with market research a plus.
  • Excellent software skills (MS Office). Database and/or data visualization (Tableau) experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills; track record of leading work groups through tasks.
  • Self-starter; demonstrated ability to lead projects independently.
  • Strong oral, facilitation, and written communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solver. Places emphasis on using data to drive decision making.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Commitment to the Foundation’s mission.
