With the guidance and direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Health & Wellness Director administers the policies and programs of the Association including all fitness programs relating to youth, teen, adult, senior adult and special populations. Additionally, the Health & Wellness Director will provide quality membership service by coordinating recreational usage of the facility and specific retention based efforts. In performing these responsibilities, the Health & Wellness Director will represent the Old Colony YMCA in a positive, professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous service and will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate based on job descriptions and representation of branch/Old Colony/Y-USAgoals
- Set, communicate and hold staff accountable for monthly revenue goals
- Responsible for developing fitness schedule for all floor staff and coverage of fitness floor during all open hours of the branch.
- Maintain all assigned facility program areas and equipment in a neat, clean and organized manner
- Seek out and communicate all down equipment to maintenance contract agencies and ensure fastest possible turnaround time. Schedule preventative maintenance visits quarterly.
- Re-order all fitness center items suffering from wear and tear, ensure programs have necessary supplies
- Work with Associate Executive Director to determine fitness program development for youth, teens, adults, seniors and special populations.
- Launch a minimum of 2 new programs annually
- Conduct Smallest Winner program and other various weight management/loss programs including promotion, testing and staff coordination
- Evaluate and deliver consistent, innovative, and high energy group fitness programming and special events
- Review and evaluate enrollments and services, and document and report findings to the Associate Executive Director on a session by session basis
- Accurate records kept and maintained for use in budgeting, program monitoring and control
- Provide on-going, in-service training of Fitness staff to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality
- Help fellow trainers with sales technique, ideas to grow revenue, and ideas to grow member retention.
- Propose marketing ideas and implementing marketing techniques to assist with growth of Personal Training, Youth & Adult Programming, and Group Fitness.
- Host at least 2 educational trainings for wellness staff/ yearly
- Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range plans; gather, interpret and prepare data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinate department activities with other departments and agencies as needed
- Develop new wellness programs and membership retention initiatives to meet the needs of the membership and the community- track effectiveness and modify as needed
- Ensure clear, concise and consistent information is communicated to members and staff
- Interpret YMCA policy, mission and objectives to members, employees, lay leaders and community.
- Attend weekly staff meetings. Meet as needed with key program coordinators
- Play an active leadership role in the branch’s Annual Campaign and Spinathon event. Assist leadership in the successful completion of the campaign and other related special events and activities
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:
Recruitment, hiring and training of Group Fitness Coordinator, Fitness Instructors, Personal Training and Wellness Program Staff
- Provide training programs and opportunities for staff. Direct personnel in the performance of direct responsibilities. Hold staff accountable for individual and departmental revenue goals. Meet regularly with coordinators. Hold in-house training and encourage staff to attend
- Review and document the effectiveness of non-exempt personnel annually, utilizing the salary administration policy as a basis for recommended adjustments.
- Employ non-exempt and hourly personnel within budget guidelines in respective departments. Build supply of instructors; actively recruit volunteers and staff for group leadership.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare respective departmental budgets. Administer approved budgets and take appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness, correcting variances as needed.
- To adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, member services, member registration, purchase orders, and employee expenses.
- Team Leader Certification from Y-USA
- Minimum four years related experience
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Previous supervisory experience required, minimum two years.
- Must be able to conduct fitness classes, lift, push and pull heavy weights to demonstrate equipment and technique, and to set up and break down equipment.
