The Malaria Advocacy and Communications Officer, Global Health will provide support to the UN Foundation’s global malaria portfolio, focusing on advocacy, resource mobilization, and communications for global efforts to combat malaria. S/he will secure and maintain relationships with the RBM Partnership and other UN Foundation partners, working with them to develop advocacy, resource mobilization and communications strategies to advance the strategic objectives of UN Foundation and the RBM Partnership. The Malaria Advocacy and Communications Officer, Global Health is a member of the UN Foundation’s Global Health Team and reports to the Director of Global Health. S/he will work closely with UNF staff focused on malaria, including the Nothing But Nets campaign and to collaborate around key opportunities.
- Serve as a UNF representative to the RBM Partnership to End Malaria Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Partner Committee (ARMPC) and Strategic Communications Partner Committee, actively working to connect UNF’s malaria work to the partnership, liaise between the two committees, and help both committees execute their workplans.
- Implement UNF advocacy and communications strategies related to work with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, including events, research, communications materials, advocacy campaigns, social media efforts, and donor engagement.
- Work with the Global Health team and UNF’s Nothing But Nets Campaign to contribute to the development and implementation of a global malaria advocacy and communications strategy.
- Develop and maintain strong strategic relationships with communications counterparts at the UN Foundation partner organizations and other United Nations agencies related to malaria, including the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, World Health Organization, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Manage select communications tactics to support those relationships, as needed.
- Coordinate information sharing and intelligence gathering with UNF campaigns & initiatives based on conversations with multilateral institutions and partnerships.
- Write talking points, event briefings, press releases and other content, as needed.
- Support in developing public engagement around Global Health Team priorities through social media tools, including Twitter and Instagram.
- Support the overall efforts of Global Health staff as directed.
- A minimum of 3-5 of experience primarily focused on public health communications, advocacy, and/or public health financing. Experience working in malaria a plus.
- Master’s degree in relevant field preferred (MPH, MPP, MIA)
- Demonstrated experience in the field of communications and global public health. Working knowledge of the UN and multilateral institutions a plus.
- Excellent editing and writing skills.
- French language skills strongly preferred.
- Experience working with high-level decision-makers and their teams.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex issues into digestible briefings specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Ability to drive projects from inception to implementation.
- Team player with the ability to work independently.
- Well-balanced blend of analytical skills, strategic thinking, planning and project management.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
