The Vice President will oversee the YMCA of Greater Boston’s Early Education, After School, Day Camp and Achievement Gap programming.
Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, the Vice President of Child Development is responsible for ensuring high-quality programs that make a positive difference in the lives of children. The Vice President will lead a team of people who oversee the YMCA of Greater Boston’s Early Education, After School, Day Camp and Achievement Gap programming through 9 early education centers, 55 after school sites, and 24 day camps. The Vice President will be the subject matter expert in child development for the YMCA of Greater Boston, a thought leader in the Greater Boston community, and the primary relationship manager for a number of state and city agencies and external partners. The position requires a blend of both strategic-level thinking and a hands-on approach to day to day management of people and programs.
The Vice President of Child Development will provide departmental leadership and strategic thinking for the growth and development of programs and services throughout greater Boston, as set forth in the key functions/responsibilities below. At YMCA of Greater Boston, Child Development is a centralized department, providing direct oversight and support to the child development initiatives occurring in our communities. The Vice President of Child Development is responsible for a budget of approximately $30 million with continued program and revenue growth expectations.
- Directly supervise Association Directors to ensure successful operations. Provide leadership and direction to Child Development program leaders.
- Lead, along with the marketing department, the development of brand and market differentiation for each program area.
- Lead expansion projects to align with strategic goals and needs of the community.
- Ensure a high-quality experience as demonstrated by net-promoter scores and other experience metrics.
- Oversee program evaluation, outcome measurement and quality assurance standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including state childcare licensing agencies, school administration, parent groups and others that align with child development programs. Responds to inquiries and complaints from partners, including formal filings.
- Ensure quality standards and maximize QRIS and EEC grants and reimbursements.
- Research and assist in the application and administration of local, state and federal grants related to child development programs.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, retain and direct child development program leaders. Review and evaluate staff performance, and ensure staff and departmental goals are achieved.
- Develop, initiate and implement strategies to increase staff retention for child development programs to positively impact consistency and quality of care.
- Work with child development program leaders to promote and assure compliance with state and local licensing agencies. Ensure that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Develop, manage and control child development budget, working with department leaders to promote enrollment, maximize reimbursement, and collect program fees. Monitor budget monthly to assure that revenue targets are met and spending is controlled.
- Be the primary point of contact for child development related incidents, working with the senior team on crisis communications, which may occur during evenings and weekends.
- In conjunction with the Financial Development/Philanthropy department, ensure support of grant writing and fundraising efforts within the Child Development department.
- Prepare and provide reporting to committees, board of directors and senior leaders.
- Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- A minimum of ten years of professional experience in one or more of the following child development areas: Early Childhood Education, Out of School Time Programs, Achieve Gap strategies, and educational enrichment.
- Experience in curriculum development, staff supervision and development, quality assurance and implementation, and fiscal management and budgeting.
- Experience in developing and scaling child development curriculum, pedagogy and programs to multiple sites.
- Experience and knowledge of state and local licensing and accreditation agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Executive presence and ability to present to community leaders, board members and senior Y leadership.
- Strong foundation for development and continuous improvement of existing policies, and procedures.
- Work closely with the financial development office for all campaign pledge and payment activity.
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
Salary: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00
