The Conservation Strategies Manager will play a key role in the implementation of conservation strategies aligned with the National Audubon Society’s Strategic Plan. This individual will be instrumental in aligning policy, science, conservation and flyway management within and across our conservation strategies in coordination with network and fundraising teams and in collaboration with Audubon conservation leadership. The position works across the organization to ensure that short and long-term milestones are met in achieving the goals of our conservation strategies as defined in Audubon’s strategic plan. 

The role will be based out of Audubon’s Washington, D.C. office and report to the Chief Conservation Officer and Senior Advisor to the CEO.

Our successful candidate will be a result-driven professional focused on meeting the goals of our conservation strategies through implementation, alignment of resources, and clear and consistent communication of priorities throughout the organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Build solid relationships throughout the organization to successfully implement conservation strategies with various interdisciplinary teams and hold individuals accountable for their roles in execution
  •  Develop robust communication strategy and ensure timely delivery on key milestones
  • Facilitate the efficient use of resources across multiple projects and where/when appropriate, act as Project Manager
  • Evaluate information flow and conduct review meetings to keep conservation strategies on track. Troubleshoot to resolve issues and keep project on track
  • Lead and communicate priorities and results to Audubon staff, centers, potential and existing supporters, conservation groups, the media and the public
  • Support science team in establishing metrics for each conservation strategy to measure successful outcomes
  • Regularly review metrics and strategy with Chief Conservation Officer to refine approaches, share success and problem solve
Skills/Experience: 

Essential:

  • 7 to 10 years of work experience focused on execution and implementation of strategic plans and project management of them, preferably within the not-for-profit sector
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully support the delivery of complex business plans that detail strategic needs, goals, budget estimates, deadlines, resource requirements and ROI
  • Capability of moving multiple tasks toward successful completion and diplomatically handling competing interests
  • Critical communication skills to convey scope, schedule, budget, and any changes to key stakeholders and affected parties
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • IT literate with MS Word, Excel and Project and proficient with MS Visio and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills
  • High degree of personal initiative and ability to work effectively within inter- and intra-departmental teams
  • Ability to demonstrate an interest in and appreciation of the programs, mission, and ethos of the National Audubon Society
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a large, complex organization, or with multiple stakeholders
  • Environmental/conservation background
