This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Member Engagement Coordinator (MEC) creates a vibrant cause-centered culture for staff, members and volunteers. The MEC models our YMCA values through fun, positive relationships with staff and members. The MEC seeks every opportunity to serve and support both our internal and external members, creating meaningful relationships that promote growth and development.
Member Experience and Retention:
- Provides excellent service to members, guests and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention.
- Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA.
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in, and web registration.
- Assist Association Marketing in internal/external marketing strategies by modeling promotion of sales, initiatives and goals.
- Work with Senior Branch staff to meet branch and Association goals for member acquisition and retention.
- Work scheduled hours in program area, minimum of 40 hours per week modeling a commitment to excellence.
Fiscal Accountability and Administration:
- Checks member bank drafts, draft dates, pro-rates, joiner fees, rates, members allowed on membership, contact information and other membership details to ensure accuracy.
- Checks program registrations including contact information, shirt sizes, special requests, etc. to ensure accuracy.
- Ensures Member Engagement Staff continuously update contact information and photos for members and program participants.
- Collects information and provides approval for memberships and scholarships, ensures timely billing, follows up on past due accounts, and processes annual renewals for membership. Prepares daily deposit and takes it to the bank when needed.
Supervise and Develop Staff:
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs Member Engagement staff and volunteers, as needed, and ensures that staff maintain their respective desks and have all necessary supplies.
- Completes Member Engagement staff schedules and payroll functions.
- Supervises staff to make sure that peak customer service satisfaction is being delivered. Ensures staff are providing Cause Drive tours, completing welcome calls in timely manner, properly filling out all applications and giving customers correct answers to inquiries and concerns.
- Ensure staff compliance with Association requirements and standards.
- Ensure payroll records are accurately inputted into PayCor.
Additional Duties:
- Model our YMCA values through fun, positive relationship with staff and members. Seek every opportunity to encourage, motivate and thank fellow staff members for their work.
- Be enthusiastic toward members and staff by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their YMCA experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members and volunteer activities.
- Incorporate “Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility” into all aspects of the position, to ensure YMCA values are being integrated into our culture and programs.
- Maintain a consistent professional image through dress, actions and relationships with others. Speak enthusiastically on behalf of the YMCA at given opportunities.
- Participate in applicable training, conferences, expos, fairs to further professional growth and promote the positive impact of our YMCA.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in customer service, public relations, organizational skills, communication and supervision.
- Experience in the field of sales, customer relations and marketing.
- Demonstrated professionalism in both attitude and appearance.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen certifications within 30 days of hire and as required going forward.
- Complete Westbend Insurance trainings prior to hire and as required going forward.
- Complete Listen First training and other YMCA required trainings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including, but not limited to conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers, members, participants and/or guests accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Visual activities including, but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; reading work materials, handwritten notes, membership & ID cards, and/or forms required by job; using measurement devices.
- Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Lifting occasionally, with or without assistance, may be required.
- Sitting or standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks – at times, for long distances –or moving from one work area to another.
- Other movements required from time to time may include, but are not limited to: stooping, kneeling crouching, crawling, and reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motion of hands, fingers and wrists.

Hourly: $10.00 - $13.00
