The Mid County Family YMCA is looking for a motivated and energetic individual to fill the role of Assistant Child Care Teacher.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position will develop, organize and coordinate high-quality YMCA program(s).
Areas of Responsibility:
- Follow general direction and perform other duties as assigned by the Child Care Teacher or Director.
- Implements curriculum within the established guidelines
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in children and relationships among children and families
- Provide children opportunities to build self-help and independence skills.
- Ensures ongoing, systematic observation of individual children and consistently completes developmental assessments.
- Ability to be able to support children in need.
- Engages parents/families connecting them to the YMCA.
- Utilize sound judgment and discretionary skills in accordance with the Gateway Region YMCA policies.
- Maintain positive relationships with many diverse people, including staff, parents, volunteers and program site administration and demonstrate strong public relation skills.
- Ensure YMCA policies and guidelines are followed at all times.
- Maintain an environment that ensures children’s safety and well-being.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
- Ensure zero tolerance for abuse and actively participate in the protection of youth and teens.
- Performs all other duties assigned.
Educational Background:
Preferred to be working toward CDA; Associates or Bachelor’s Degree related to Early Childhood Education or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Preferred at least 1 year of experience in childcare
- Ability to relate to children, families, branch staff members and volunteers
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Physical mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time
- Physical Dexterity: ability to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment
- Lifting: ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Sensory Requirements: ability to hear, listen, speak, smell, touch, taste, see and distinguish colors
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $23,660.00
