The Conservation Coordinator provides administrative, project management, event coordination, research, and other general support to Missouri Business Unit (BU) conservation teams in direct collaboration with MO BU conservation strategy leads and/or the Director of Conservation Program. S/he will support the Missouri BU’s priorities including biodiversity protection, nature-based solutions, sustainable agriculture, building healthy cities and climate resilience.
In collaboration with the MO BU’s strategy teams, the Conservation Coordinator will, administer contracts, grants, and agreements to ensure that they meet TNC’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). S/he will coordinate internal legal and grant review when appropriate, draft contracts, coordinate grant reporting and deadlines, set schedules and timelines, and advertise and coordinate with contractors, vendors, and staff. Working with conservation project leads, s/he will facilitate conservation project meetings and coordinate work flow. S/he will coordinate outreach, field day and training event logistics working with BU conservation strategy teams, communications staff, community partners, private landowners and state/federal agencies. S/he may manage conservation data and participate in conservation planning, conduct small desktop research projects to support conservation strategy teams including collecting, assembling and analyzing various types of data, document surveys, producing maps using GIS software and assisting in the production of reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns.
- Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
- May assist with program budget preparation and monitoring.
- Participate in complex negotiations and provide support to project managers.
- Makes day to day decision independently as delegated by the supervisor.
- Demonstrates sensitivity in handling confidential information.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Travel occasionally, working long and flexible hours as needed.
- The Conservation Coordinator may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Experience with grant or contract reporting and administration.
- Experience handling standard business communications.
- Experience in managing and tracking multiple projects.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-4 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources and work independently.
- Ability to synthesize information and create reports and maintain electronic files and databases.
- Familiarity with stream or floodplain restoration, green infrastructure, or sustainable agriculture or related projects.
- Experience coordinating events or trainings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to communicate positively and effectively with people of all educational levels and backgrounds, and to clearly and effectively articulate concepts, gain consensus, and to serve as an effective representative for the Conservancy.
- Experience with GIS software and map making.
- Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability.
- Ability to plan, administer and record results of work-team meetings and activities.
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
