The Vigo County YMCA Branch Executive Director is a key staff member at the YMCA of the Wabash Valley. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, this person is responsible for all branch decision-making and operations including membership, program services, financial development, community engagement, business operations, facility management, and employee development, all in accordance with the association’s policies.
The Vigo County YMCA reopened in 2012 and operates a 35,000 square foot facility located in Fairbanks Park on the Wabash River in Terre Haute, Indiana. The facility is leased by the YMCA from the City of Terre Haute Parks Department. The facility includes two wellness areas, multiple group exercise studios and spaces, multiple youth programming spaces, a 25-yard indoor pool, a gymnasium, softball and baseball fields, and an outdoor playground. The Vigo County YMCA serves as the Vigo County School Corporation Latch Key provider for all 18 elementary schools. The branch has 1500 membership units, a $1.2 million operating budget, and a $25k annual campaign.
In 2019, the Vigo County YMCA turned around its operations and has improve its financial position. The Y is focusing on growing membership and program revenue as well as increasing contributions made to the YMCA.
The YMCA of the Wabash Valley includes two facility branches serving Clay and Vigo counties in Indiana. A third branch is under development and will be opening in Putnam County Indiana.
Terre Haute, Indiana is the 12th largest city in Indiana, serves as the county seat for Vigo County, and is 75 miles west of Indianapolis. It is the home to four universities - Indiana State, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology - the #1 ranked engineering school in the country, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, and Ivy Tech.

Terre Haute’s weather is varied. Residents experience all four weather season. Summers are warm-hot and winters are moderate-cold.
Sport, Recreation, and Entertainment options in Terre Include: multiple parks and walking trails highlighted by Griffin Bike Park, Deming Park, and National Road Heritage Trail. The community has six golf courses, host the Terre Haute Rex Baseball Team of the Prospect League in the summer, and is the home of the LaVerne Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Additionally Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman University have multiple sports teams and events that members of the community enjoy.
Terre Haute has a diverse culture that includes Festivals (The Blues at the Crossroads being the largest), the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, the Swopes Art Museum, the Dance Studio, Community Theatre of Terre Haute, Terre Haute Children's Museum, Clabber Girl Museum, and the Candles Holocaust Museum.
Also, if you are looking for a night out, a daytime adventure, or a weekend getaway, a variety of options exist. You can hop in your car on a Friday night and head east and one hour later arrive in downtown Indianapolis, or wake up on Saturday and drive 2 1/2 hours west and spend the day in St. Louis, or you can drive 3 hours north and spend the weekend in Chicago.
- Develops and is responsible for the operating branch budget and ensures budgets are met or exceeded.
- Directs membership engagement strategies which support branch and association goals.
- Establishes plans for creating and expanding programs and services.
- Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
- Recruits and maintains a diverse advisory council that actively support the Y’s goals and strategic plans.
- Develops, maintains, and models positive working and collaborative relationships with staff, stakeholders, community organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
- Represents and actively promotes the YMCA in the community.
- Implements marketing and communication strategies to effectively communicate to stakeholders the impact the Y has in the community and the relevance of membership and programs the Y provides.
- Oversees the hiring, training, development and supervision of staff.
- Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Serves as a member of the Y’s association leadership team and assigned board committees.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
- The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Required Certifications
- Three or more years of management experience overseeing budgets of $500,000 or greater, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
- Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments ofthe community.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
- YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
